What signs?
follow the money. Look around. What other mma orgs have secret backers where no one knows who owns them? Read Ben Fowlkes article on them paying undercard fighters 3k/3k. That means they have been running at a huge financial loss because they aren't selling any tickets.
Only conclusion is someone with giant pockets is proping this thing up. And they want to be very quiet about it.

Yeah, they could be providing some financial backing.

Dana wants to keep Cyborg in zuffa because shes the best female fighter in the world. Thats why he says this catchweight fight with ronda might happen but he will never risk letting ronda getting destroyed at 140. Since zuffa basically owns invicta they want cyborg to fight there so no other promotion can sign her. Now that cyborg is out he talks about her like shes nothing.Junkyard Log wrote:PRIDE FC wrote:I don´t think UFC offered Cyborg a fight at 140. They want her to cut down to 135 and that´s too much for her body.Junkyard Log wrote:Dana is trying to make it out that Cyborg is ducking Rhonda(which I think is bullshit)personally.
He said they offered her the 140 lbs catchweight fight and she still turned it down there has to be more to the story just doesn't sound right to me.
Why would she say she'd fight her at 140 lbs and then say no to it?? if she did say no there must be something more that Aunty Bozo is conveniently leaving out..
Okay, so you don’t want to make 135, but you want to talk about fighting Ronda. First of all, you tested positive for steroids and got stripped of your title. And you’re trying to talk about how Ronda doesn’t want to fight you, but she’s the champion at 135. If Ronda goes and does the fight at 140 and does the fight at 140, it’s not even for a title. The fight just makes no sense.
I read somewhere this was said but I just listened to the video and it wasn't in those words...
Dana basically said the fight at 140 doesn't make sense because it wouldn't be for a title... So ok we'll figure something out he said for Cyborg to get a few fights else where Ronda will defend her title a few times then maybe Ronda could move up to fight her at whatever and He said no they want nothing to do with it.

Invicta Fighting Championships officials announced Friday that Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos has signed a multi-fight deal and will debut for the all-female promotion on April 5.
Santos meets Ediane Gomes at Invicta FC 5, which takes place at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. The winner of the bout will square off with former Strikeforce bantamweight queen Marloes Coenen later this year at Invicta FC 6, according to the official release.
“I am excited to finally get back in the cage and to have the opportunity to fight for Invicta Fighting Championships, which has shown a tremendous amount of commitment to furthering the growth of women’s MMA,” said Cyborg. “I will be ready on April 5 for Ediane, and I plan to dominate my competition as I’ve done in the past.”
Santos, 27, has not competed since knocking out Hiroko Yamanaka in December 2011 -- a result that was later changed to a no-contest after “Cyborg” tested positive for the anabolic steroid Stanozolol. The Brazilian was subsequently stripped of her Strikeforce featherweight title and handed a one-year suspension by the California State Athletic Commission.
Though a bout with current UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was highly anticipated, Santos asserted that it would not be medically safe for her to cut down to 135 pounds to fight for that title. Last week, Santos’ manager, Tito Ortiz, stated that he had asked for Santos’ Zuffa release.
Gomes, meanwhile, was originally expected to face Julia Budd at Invicta FC 5, but Budd will now instead face Australian talent Fiona Muxlow. A 12-fight pro, Gomes rides a four-fight winning streak heading into her clash with “Cyborg.” Like Santos, the 32-year-old was last seen competing against Yamanaka, as Gomes earned a unanimous decision over “Cat’s Eye” on Jan. 5 at Invicta FC 4.

Cyborg was never cut. She is still on the strikeforce page. Invicta is owned by zuffa. All this was just a giant pro wrestling work.

It's a big leap in logic that Zuffa would invest into a money-losing promotion. Why not buy it outright like they did with PRIDE, Strikeforce, WEC, etc? It might be possible, but why would they do it, is what I'm asking.
Also, if UFC wanted Cyborg to fight in Invicta and then go to the UFC, why not do that without the drama of having Tito ask for her release (with no contract signed to the UFC anyways, so no real hurdles)?

I agree, to the extent that financial connections are potentially traceable, and if they were simply handing off cash, that would be potentially illegal.
But, there are 'legal' ways to go about it too, through shell companies, etc.
At the end of the day, nobody knows.

They are not investing. They started and own the promotion from day one. Of course with a shell company. Heard of forza?

To build womens talent and gauge public perception of how much money they can make off of it. It was started after Tate vs Rousey did big business.
zuffa has maxed out the mma space. The only way they are going to squeeze any more money out of the mma market is to slowly expand to niche areas / run more shows. More fighters and divisions are needed. Hence them pushing forward with the 115 pound division despite fans not wanting it.
Zuffa has large loans out with wallstreet. No corner of the mma market is going to be left untouched if zuffa can squeeze a penny out of it.

It makes sense. I'm sure nothing pissed Dana off more than seeing Gina drawing all that attention in Strikeforce, a woman fighter that eclipsed many of his own fighters. Gina was a star and now they think they see the same thing in Rousey, it makes sense they'd be meddling in womens MMA as much as they can.

It is clear that there is at least an alliance between Zuffa and Invicta. And Zuffa does not work well with others.
Here is the official story:
"Well, according to UFC President Dana White, it could have been a lot sweeter for all three parties had Team Santos been a bit more patient. The Las Vegas fight boss recently revealed that a deal was in the works between the UFC and Invicta to have Santos compete for the all-women's MMA fight promotion under a Zuffa contract in which White and Co. would foot the bill."
And:
White spilled the beans at the UFC on FUEL TV 7 post-fight press conference scrum:
"We were going to sign her to a contract and then we were going to have her fight in Invicta, which means we'd pay all the bills for her to fight in Invicta. She'd be under a UFC contract with all the perks and benefits of being a UFC fighter, but would fight in Invicta. So instead of doing that, they chose to not do that and fight in Invicta. If you can make logic out of that whole fucking situation, you're a better man than I. We don't have a 145-pound division, so we're going back and forth with these guys in the deal. So I called Shannon Knapp, who owns Invicta, and said, 'Listen, if I do this deal with Cyborg, can you give her fights over there? I'll pay the bills, and you put on some fights over there until I can figure out how this whole thing is going to go down?' She said, 'Absolutely, no problem, we'd love to do it.' The next thing I know, Tito wants out of the contract and they sign with her."

What is Zuffa's record of working with other promotions? Try to buy them or destroy them, or both, as with Pride, Strikeforce, etc. So what can we expect from this love affair between Zuffa and Invicta? And what else is going on between them that they don't reveal?
