GLOBAL-MMA Rankings (non-Zuffa) - Feb 2012 Empty Re: GLOBAL-MMA Rankings (non-Zuffa) - Feb 2012

Tue Feb 07, 2012 6:55 pm
Ranking Rules (GLOBAL-MMA)

- Rankings are based on a fighter's overall career results and recent performance.
- Victories over highly ranked fighters and losses against non-ranked opponents have a larger effect on the fighters ranking position.
- A fighter will not necessarily take the place of his opponent after a victory or a loss against a ranked fighter.
- A fighter will be ranked number one if he defeats the number one ranked fighter in the weight division.
- A fighter will drop in the rankings if he does not fight regularly against high level competition.
- If a fighter does not fight for two years he will be removed from the rankings.
- A fighter can be ranked in two different weight divisions.
- A highly ranked fighter can get a high ranking in another weight division after one or more wins in his new weight division.
- Champions from reputable promotions will have an advantage over champions from promotions with lesser competition.
- This ranking system includes only fighters that are not under exclusive contract to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) or Strikeforce.
- Top level fighters that leave the UFC or Strikeforce may be ranked in subsequent rankings.
- Fighters that sign exclusively to the UFC or Strikeforce will be removed from the rankings.
- Fighters that are signed to non-exclusive contracts with Strikeforce, who fight for other MMA promotions (excluding the UFC), may be included in the rankings.
- Fighters that are signed to multiple promotions will have their promotions listed based on the following criteria: a) championship held in a promotion, b) predominant promotion the fighter fights in, c) promotion last fought in.
- Rankings will be updated every month.

GLOBAL-MMA Rankings (non-Zuffa) - Feb 2012 Empty Re: GLOBAL-MMA Rankings (non-Zuffa) - Feb 2012

Tue Feb 07, 2012 7:09 pm
Post your comments on these rankings and the ranking system, as well as your own rankings (including flyweight, bantamweight, and featherweight). A lot of great fights should be happening soon with a number of top ranked fighters; such as, Aoki vs. Alvarez II, Lombard vs. Khalidov, Lombard vs. Shlemenko, Askren vs. Lima, Santos vs. Prindle, among others. Many of these top ranked fighters are scheduled for other fights as well as the upcoming Bellator tournaments.

New top ranked fighters could emerge soon from promotions; such as, ONE FC, Legend FC, and ProElite.

These rankings will be updated each month based on the criteria in the post above.

I will probably add these divisions in future rankings. I excluded them due to the time to create and then maintain/update the rankings. Super heavyweight would be another good division to add since no other website has a ranking system for this division.

Yup, pretty much spot on with that. Makovsky or Ueda will probably be number 2 BW. Warren and Sandro will follow Takaya, as well as Curran.

Great job CDF47! It´s awesome to have the fighters from non-zuffa promotions ranked. They don´t usually get the attention they deserve. I also think it´s better to just rank the LW-HW divisions for now. Many promotions don´t have the smaller weight classes and it´s really hard to rank BW and FW.

May I ask where Andrei Arlovski is? I think he's a top 10 HW outside of Zuffa. I definitely think he at least belongs in the other contenders section over the likes or Prindle and Lopez.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I agree, they do not get the attention they deserve or a fair shot at the rankings on nearly all websites so it is good to separate them out. Yeah, we can stick with these divisions for now.

Agreed. He is about 14 or 15 now but a good win or two against a solid fighter could move him up fast.

Yeah, he is close. The main reason he is not in the other contenders list is because he is 2-4 in his last 6 fights over the past 2 years. His losses did include top fighters; number 1 GLOBAL ranked Fedor, number 3 GLOBAL ranked Kharitonov, and number 10 Zuffa ranked Big Foot but his other loss was a 1st round KO loss to Rogers. Plus, his losses to Fedor and Kharitonov were brutal first round KOs. His recent head kick KO over Fulton was impressive. I do not have him ranked but I would say he is top 15 (just one or two away from the other contenders list).

I agree. He may have fallen on hard times but he is on a 2 fight win streak and with his history (he has beat several top guys) I think he deserves top 10 status.

You really think top 10? In over the last two years, Arlovski had four straight losses with 3 first round KOs. He does have two recent wins but not quite enough to get top 10 in my opinion. He is definitely close though. I would say 14 ranked or 15 at worse. If he beats anyone of the top 10 or even someone in the top 15 he will definitely be close to or at top 10. He definitely has solid overall career results (which is an important criteria for this ranking system) to make the argument that he should be very close.

Below are stats that show the number of fighters per promotion that are ranked in the GLOBAL top 10.

GLOBAL-MMA Top 10 Rankings Promotional Statistics:

1. Bellator - 19 Fighters Ranked in the Top 10
2. M-1 Global - 13
3. DREAM - 5
4. DEEP - 3
5. Free Agents -3
6. KSW - 2
7. BAMMA - 2
8. Shooto - 1
9. Shooto Brazil - 1
10. AFC - 1

So for the 50 fighters listed, 9 promotions (plus 3 free agents) have fighters ranked in the GLOBAL top 10 from lightweight to heavyweight. Bellator and M-1 Global are dominating the rankings right now with DREAM trailing behind. So 64 percent of the fighters listed compete in either Bellator or M-1 Global. DEEP and KSW have strong potential to improve.

I expect ONE FC and Legend FC to start building new star fighters and new champions very soon so I expect they will be building their ranked fighters soon. Hopefully DREAM uses the One Asia Network to build up their roster and improve their rankings since they only host approximately 6 events each year.

MFC, KOTC, and Shark Fights have no fighters ranked in the top ten (although Tony Lopez is very close).

Don't get me wrong, I know where you are coming from. Being 2-4 in his last 6 isn't great but it was all to highly ranked guys (besides Rogers). I tend to count overall achievement much higher than most people I think. To me, once you have done a lot in the sport it takes a lot to knock you down. I'm not up in arms or anything and have no problem with him having another fight or two to work his way back to the top 10 (or one really good win).
