GLOBAL-MMA Ranking Update Summary (September 2012)

Roger Hollett: Roger Hollett was removed from the GLOBAL-MMA light heavyweight rankings after signing an exclusive contract with the UFC as reported on 06 August 2012.

Jay Hieron: Jay Hieron was removed from the welterweight rankings after signing an exclusive contract with the UFC as reported on 08 August 2012. DEEP welterweight champion, Yuya Shirai, returned to the GLOBAL-MMA welterweight rankings following the removal of Hieron.

Jorge Santiago: Jay Hieron was removed from the middleweight rankings after signing an exclusive contract with Strikeforce as reported on 09 August 2012. Top Bushido Lithuania middleweight contender, Petras Markevicius, entered the GLOBAL-MMA middleweight rankings following the removal of Santiago. Markevicius holds a past victory over Gegard Mousasi.

Mikhail Zayats: Mikhail Zayats returned to the ring at League S-70 on 11 August 2012 earning a first round TKO victory over Alexei Varagushin via ground-and-pound. Zayats secured his spot in the GLOBAL-MMA light heavyweight rankings with the victory.

Vyacheslav “Slava” Vasilevsky: Vyacheslav “Slava” Vasilevsky was back in action at League S-70 on 11 August 2012 stopping Jorge Becerra with punches in the first round. “Slava” maintained his spot in the top ten of the middleweight rankings with the victory.

Alexander Shlemenko: Top ranked middleweight, Alexander Shlemenko, dominated Anthony Ruiz for three rounds in their fight at League S-70. Shlemenko won the fight by unanimous decision to hold his slot at the top of the GLOBAL-MMA middleweight division. Shlemenko’s next fight will be against Maiquel Falcao for the vacant Bellator middleweight crown.

Doo Ho Choi: Doo Ho Choi moved up a couple spots in the other contenders list of the featherweight rankings following an impressive first round knockout of Kosuke Umeda at DEEP 59 Impact on 18 August 2012.

Yusuke Kawanago: Legend FC featherweight champion, Yusuke Kawanago, was back in action at Legend FC 10 on 24 August 2012. Kawanago defeated title challenger Rob Lisita via unanimous decision. Kawanago’s ranking status in the other contenders list did not change following the victory.

Marcos Galvao: Marcos Galvao won the Bellator Bantamweight tournament in impressive fashion by stopping Luis Alberto Nogueira in the second round at Bellator 73 on 24 August 2012. Galvao earned a shot at Bellator champion Eduardo Dantas with the victory. Galvao jumped to the number 4 spot in the GLOBAL-MMA rankings. Nogueira’s ranking status did not change following the defeat.

Attila Vegh: Attila Vegh jumped to number 3 in the GLOBAL-MMA light heavyweight rankings following a 25 second knockout victory over Travis Wiuff to win the Bellator Summer Series Light Heavyweight Tournament at Bellator 73. Vegh earned a shot at Bellator light heavyweight champion Christian M’Pumbu with the tournament victory. Travis Wiuff dropped from the number 2 spot in the rankings to number 4.

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson: Anthony “Rumble” Johnson moved to the light heavyweight division for the first time where he earned a TKO victory due to strikes over Esteves Jones at Titan FC 24 on 24 August 2012. Johnson was removed from the middleweight rankings and is now ranked at number 10 in the light heavyweight rankings following the switch in weight class and victory at Titan FC 24. DEEP middleweight challenger, Ryuta Sakurai, entered the middleweight rankings following the removal of “Rumble” Johnson.

Tyson Nam: In a top candidate for Non-Zuffa upset of the year, Bellator champion and GLOBAL-MMA number 2 ranked bantamweight, Eduardo Dantas, was knocked out unconscious in 1 minute 40 seconds of the first round by Tyson Nam at Shooto Brazil 33 on 25 August 2012. The KO victory set Nam soaring to the number 2 spot of the GLOBAL-MMA bantamweight rankings while Dantas slipped one spot to number 3. An immediate rematch in the Bellator cage for the bantamweight title is definitely in order. Hopefully Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney is working hard to put this fight together quickly. Top ONE FC bantamweight Leandro Issa was forced out of the rankings due to the entrance of Tyson Nam.

Bibiano Fernandes: Top GLOBAL-MMA bantamweight Bibiano Fernandes took out CFC bantamweight champion Gustavo Falciroli by unanimous decision at ONE FC 5: Pride of a Nation on 31 August 2012. Fernandes remains on top of the bantamweight rankings following the victory.

* A number of other top ranked fighters won fights against fighters ranked lower than them which did not alter their ranking status.

GLOBAL-MMA Ranking Rules

*This ranking system includes only fighters that are not under exclusive contract to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) or Strikeforce.

*Top level fighters that leave the UFC or Strikeforce may be ranked in subsequent rankings.

*Fighters that sign exclusively to the UFC or Strikeforce will be removed from the rankings.

*Fighters that are signed to non-exclusive contracts with Strikeforce, who fight for other MMA promotions (excluding the UFC), may be included in the rankings.

*Rankings are based on a fighter's overall career results and recent performance.

*Victories over highly ranked fighters and losses against non-ranked opponents have a larger effect on the fighters ranking position.

*A fighter will not necessarily take the place of his opponent after a victory or a loss against a ranked fighter.

*A fighter will be ranked number one if he defeats the number one ranked fighter in the weight division.

*A fighter will drop in the rankings if he does not fight regularly against high level competition.

*If a fighter does not fight for two years he will be removed from the rankings.

*A fighter can be ranked in two different weight divisions.

*A highly ranked fighter can get a high ranking in another weight division after one or more wins in his new weight division.

*Champions and fighters from reputable promotions will have an advantage over champions and fighters from promotions with lesser competition.

*Fighters that are signed to multiple promotions will have their promotions listed based on the following criteria: 1) championship held in a promotion, 2) predominant promotion the fighter fights in, 3) promotion
last fought in.

*Rankings will be updated every month.

Feels good to see Rumble at #10 at LHW. Nam made a huge jump in the rankings but he deserves it after his performance against Dantas.

I think Adam Haliev from S-70 should be in the mix at 185 next month. He's 8-0 and shown some incredible talent.

Yeah, Rumble was solid in his debut at 205. Hopefully he steps up the competition at that weight. He took a big hit after moving around in weight classes.

Nam had a big win. Had to keep Dantas ahead of of Makovsy and Nam over Dantas. That gave Nam a huge jump. Hopefully Bjorn signs him up soon for an immediate rematch.

Yeah, McKee hasn't fought in a while so he should probably drop soon. Plus, he hasn't fought anyone worth mentioning since MFC when he held the belt there.

Yeah, it is too bad AA's fight was just a NC. That could have been good reason to bring him in. Hopefully they rematch in Oct. so he can get the "W" by soccer kicks this time.

That's a good find. I will have to remember him when I update the rankings after someone drops out from MW or one of the other contenders loses.

Yup, that's right. Hopefully he signs with a solid promotion (outside Zuffa) and fights for a HW title.

ZuffaKiller..... bibi #1 i can agree with that, but miguel not being in the list?? something is wrong...

plus i can make a point that bibi's last fight wasnt that impressive, that was one of the most boring fights in the lower weights ive seen in my life...bibi's record is 12-3, miguel's 40-5...imo hansen beated bibi, so in my eyes he is 11-4.....the resume of torres imo is better than bibi's....having said that

i would love to see torres vs bibi....

Fri Sep 14, 2012 3:49 pm
^^^ He is not listed because at the time Miguel was still with zuffa and he has not had a fight outside of zuffa since being cut.

Impressive or not he got the Win and as far as being boring I have seen fights way more boring then Bibis last fight. torres 40 plus record has alot of cans and no bodys then he went to the wec where he fought some good opponents. So he does not have a better record then bibi. One thing is for sure they both fought Antonio Banuelos and migul could not finish him but bibi TKOed him in the first.

Yes that would be a good fight

ZuffaKiller...i know, thats why im pointing out that miguel imo right now is the #1 135....

i like bibi, but he did not looked good winning his last fight, if every win is the same, and you dont count impressive outing on fighters, then there is not even close.....miguel 40 wins, bibi 12....of those 12, bibi has finished only 5 of his opponents with 7 dec wins, meanwhile miguel has gone to the judges only 8 times in 40 wins, finishing his opponents 32 times...

imo miguel #1 bibi #2, but i would love to see this fight

^^^^Sorry that makes no sense for him to be ranked #1 at 135
As I said most of the 40 wins on Miguel record are against cans
If miguel wins his first fight since being cut from zuffa then he should be ranked but not at 1#

And yet you want to to brag about miguels 40 win record

Wait so now their records are not much a difference now after you just said Miguel has the better win record?
