Robot Combat League is basically owned by Syfy/NBCUniversal, competitors of Fox.

So far, no word one way or another on a second season, although ratings have been pretty good.

I don't understand how all the random damage like fire and sparks and blowing hoses and shit start happening, what's the deal? They're barely touching one another...

The sparks are added as sort of props, not from real damage. They are smashing each other with great force, and it is their outer armor that is breaking. But the show is shot wrong. They keep cutting away from the fights and don't clearly show the punches landed.

Okay I was really confused about the sparks. Yeah I agree about the camera work, why keep cutting to people flailing around? Do a screen in screen if you must, show the rock 'em sock 'ems full time.
