zuffa cuts another 7 fighters

The latest series of fighter cuts have been announced in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It’s a tough business to be in, and if you aren’t performing in this organization, you’re getting the boot.

Seven fighters coming off of losses have been given their walking papers, and will have to find a home outside the premiere organization in mixed martial arts.

Phil De Fries, Chris Spang, Jimmy Quinlan, Collin Hart, Kevin Casey, Gilbert Smith and Adam Cella have all been released by the UFC within the last week.

Possibly the most surprising release of the bunch, heavyweight Phil De Fries (9-3, 2-3 UFC) is coming off a 19 second knockout loss to Matt Mitrione. He holds victories over Rob Broughton and Oli Thompson in the Octagon.

The Ultimate Fighter season 17 competitors Jimmy Quinlan, Collin Hart, Kevin Casey, Gilbert Smith, and Adam Cella were all promised one fight in the UFC, but failed to extend their stay in the organization with losses.

Chris Spang (5-2) is a Strikeforce import who lost his UFC debut to Adlan Amagov by unanimous decision at UFC on Fuel 9 in Sweden. He holds a notable TKO victory over current UFC welterweight Nah-Shon Burrell.
