Not that I like the guy, but does anyone else find it kind of weird that Schaub didn't get submission of the night? First d'arce choke in UFC HW history and he gets beat out over an arm-in guillotine.

I don't know, I can kind of understand why the chose the submission they did. Schaub's finish looked aesthetically better but then again, Mitrione is green as fuck and really has no business being in the UFC.Mikal wrote:Not that I like the guy, but does anyone else find it kind of weird that Schaub didn't get submission of the night? Kimura is a very competent grappler, add that to the fact that Gagnon was in his home country and the fight was pretty entertaining for as long as it lasted.

Great fight. If Bones beats Glover, I would like to see a rematch with Gustafsson.

Fight was a battle. Real close fight. I don't mind the slight edge going to the champ for the second or third round. Jones won rounds 4 and 5 and Gustafsson won round 1.

I wasn't really rooting for either so I'd like to think I was pretty unbiased.
With that said, I'm pretty sure I scored it for Jon too. I'd have to go back and watch but I remember giving Jon 2,4, and 5.
2 was the toss up round imo and could have just easily been a 10-10 (even though they never give them out). It was the closest round but I remember giving a slight edge to Jones for some reason. I think Jon might have been backing him up a little more in that round or something, I don't know. Gotta watch it again later because I had a few drinks in me lol. BUT.. I wouldn't have been upset at all if it went the other way.
If it wasn't for the shitty unified rules and scored on damage like it should be done, I'd give the fight to Gus by a mile.
He seriously fucked Jon up pretty bad.
The only thing that kept Jon in the game was landing a couple flush head kicks that Gus ate like a champ, some standing elbows, and those dirty straight kicks to the knee.
Gus was beating Jon in power, speed, boxing, and grappling imo.

That fight was the perfect example of when to use 10-10 rounds

The thing is, Jon Jones would've won under Pride rules since he finished the fight stronger.adam wrote:I wasn't really rooting for either so I'd like to think I was pretty unbiased.

I knew khabib would shine in the healy fight great handspeed outstanding grappling I would love to see him vs a top 5 ranked Guy before title which is what's likely to happen.
Schaub looked good fast as usual pretty accurate boxing good takedown and that brown belt did him well great darce choke over my boy meathead.
Wonderboy Thomson is one of my favorite up and comers excellent win.
And wison reis successful in ufc debut lmao to all those doubting bellators talent suck it menjivar is no joke great win.

I think Gustafsson beat that ass. Wasnt really rooting for anyone before but Gustafsson really won me over during the fight. I thought Gustafsson took the first three rounds, Jones didnt really have any answers and looked lost and deperate at times. The last two rounds Gustafsson got tired and hurt a few times but I still think he won.

Really I could see it 3-2 for either guy. 49-46 for Jones was outrageous, though. I scored it for Gus.

Round 4 was also close, imo. Most people think Jon stole it at the end, but if that hadn't of happened, it was probably Gus' most dominant round in the fight.

Yeah ill have to watch the fight again to be shure but I wasnt that impressed with Jones in this fight though , he threw good elbows but apart from that and some high kicks not much else. I also think Gustafssons footwork and movement was more important than any reach or hight..was awesome to see him stop all those takedowns

On a certain MMA website I was called "crazy" and a "troll" for saying that Jones desperately needed to improve his boxing exactly for fights like this. Gus is a very technical fighter, & without a massive size and athletic advantage over his opponents, Jon looks quite ordinary. He was made to look very average last night and certainly came out looking worse because of it.Miike wrote:Yeah ill have to watch the fight again to be shure but I wasnt that impressed with Jones in this fight though , he threw good elbows but apart from that and some high kicks not much else. Yeah and he wanted to box one of the Klitschko's too haha. But yes I do think Jones is a very good fighter and I actually thought he was going to beat Gustafsson convincingly (haven't been overly impressed by Gustafsson before) but Jones got beat up. On top of that I really think all these promos of the reach and hight and size and all that stuff makes Jones look even worse..since the first time he actually faces someone his own size and he didn't look good at all.Sweet Pea Is My Mom wrote:On a certain MMA website I was called "crazy" and a "troll" for saying that Jones desperately needed to improve his boxing exactly for fights like this.
