Global-MMA Ranking Update Summary (July 2013)

Sergei Kharitonov: Sergei Kharitonov dropped four more spots in the heavyweight rankings on 02 June 2013 due to inactivity.  Kharitonov will continue his descent in the rankings if he does not schedule a fight soon.

Moise Rimbon: Moise Rimbon dropped four spots in the light heavyweight rankings on 02 June 2013 due to inactivity.  Rimbon has not fought in over 14 months.

Mike Kyle: Mike Kyle plans to make his return to the 205 lbs division to enter into the rumored WSOF light heavyweight tournament.  Kyle was added to the GLOBAL-MMA light heavyweight rankings on 02 June 2013 at number 8.  Moise Rimbon was removed from the rankings due to the entrance of Kyle.

Raphael Davis: Raphael Davis dropped four spots in the light heavyweight rankings on 02 June 2013 due to inactivity.  Davis has not fought in over 14 months.

Vitor Vianna: Vitor Vianna dropped four spots in the middleweight rankings on 02 June 2013 due to inactivity.  Vianna has not fought in over 14 months.

Bruno Santos: Bruno Santos dropped four spots in the middleweight rankings on 02 June 2013 due to inactivity.  Santos has not fought in over 14 months.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson: Quinton “Rampage” Jackson entered the top 5 of the GLOBAL-MMA light heavyweight rankings after signing a contract with Bellator MMA as reported on 04 June 2013.  Raphael Davis was dropped from the rankings following the entrance of Rampage.

Robert Drysdale: Robert Drysdale was removed from the GLOBAL-MMA light heavyweight ranking contenders list after signing an exclusive contract with the UFC as reported on 04 June 2013.  Raphael Davis returned to the light heavyweight contenders list following the removal of Drysdale.

Viktor Nemkov: Top M-1 Global light heavyweight, Viktor Nemkov, submitted Reinaldo da Silva in the first round at M-1 Challenge 40 on 08 June 2013.  Nemkov moved up two spots in the GLOBAL-MMA light heavyweight rankings with the submission victory.

Magomed Malikov: M-1 heavyweight contender, Magomed Malikov, defeated top ten ranked Jeff Monson as the doctor was forced to call a halt to the bout in the second round at M-1 Challenge 40.  Malikov did serious damage to Monson with punches early in the first round as Monson was trying to take the fight to the floor.  Malikov will enter the M-1 Global heavyweight grand prix semi-finals with this victory.  Malikov moved up one spot to number 4 based on this victory while Monson dropped one spot due to the defeat.

Aslambek Saidov: KSW welterweight champion, Aslambek Saidov, successfully defended his crown at KSW 23 on 08 June 2013 against Ben Lagman.  Saidov finished Lagman in the second round with an armbar submission.  The KSW champion moved up two spots in the welterweight contenders list with the submission victory.

Michal Materla: KSW middleweight champion, Michal Materla, earned a unanimous decision victory over Kendall Grove to retain his title at KSW 23.  The fight went to a fourth sudden victory round to decide a winner where Materla took the fight to Grove to earn the decision win.  Materla remains ranked at number 3 in the GLOBAL-MMA middleweight rankings.  

Mamed Khalidov: Number 2 ranked middleweight, Mamed Khalidov, needed just minutes to sub out Melvin Manhoef in the main event at KSW 23.  Manhoef tried to keep the fight standing but Khalidov proved to be way too much for the Dutch striker as Khalidov was able to apply a choke forcing Manhoef to tap in the first round.  Khalidov remained ranked number 2 after the victory.  A cross-promotional super fight with top ranked middleweight Bellator champion, Alexander Shlemenko, is hopefully what is in store next for the Polish submission and striking ace.

Naoyuki Kotani: ZST lightweight champion, Naoyuki Kotani, improved his win streak to 11 by taking out undefeated contender Vitali Krat at Rings on 09 June 2013 with an armbar submission in the first round.  Kotani moved up one spot in the lightweight rankings to number 8 with the submission victory.  

Justin Gaethje: Justin Gaethje moved up two rungs on the lightweight contender ladder after finishing Brian Cobb with leg kicks in the third round at WSOF 3 on 14 June 2013.  Gaethje is now 9-0 with 8 finishes including 7 (T)KOs and 1 submission and he holds recent impressive finishing victories over Drew Fickett, Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante, and Brian Cobb.  Gaethje is the top lightweight in the WSOF promotion where a future lightweight title shot seems to be looming for the young contender.

Steve Carl: Steve Carl entered the GLOBAL-MMA welterweight contenders list after landing an impressive rear-naked choke submission on Tyson Steele early in the first round at WSOF 3.  Carl has quickly become one of the top welterweights in WSOF where he may be vying for a future title shot.  Jay Hieron was dropped from the welterweight rankings due to the entrance of Carl.  

Josh Burkman: Josh Burkman shocked the MMA world by choking out Jon Fitch with a guillotine submission in just 41 seconds which left Fitch unconscious at WSOF 3.  The impressive walk-off submission victory quickly made Burkman the clear top welterweight in WSOF where he will be fighting for the inaugural title next.  The victory earned Burkman the second spot in the GLOBAL-MMA welterweight rankings.  Jon Fitch is now ranked at number 5 following his second consecutive loss.

Kazunori Yokota: DEEP featherweight champion, Kazunori Yokota, successfully defended his crown at DEEP – Cage Impact 2013 on 15 June 2013 by finishing Eun Kyum Kim with a keylock submission in the first round.  The victory did not affect Yokota’s ranking position.

Doo Ho Choi: Doo Ho Choi made his return to the featherweight contenders list after dispatching Shoji Maruyama in a highly entering fight at DEEP – Cage Impact 2013.  Choi was rocked a few times during the fight but battled on to put away Maruyama in the second round with punches.  Shahbulat Shamhalaev dropped from the rankings following the return of Choi.  

Aleksandar “Rodja” Radosavljevic: Serbian light heavyweight, Aleksandar “Rodja” Radosavljevic, defeated previously top 5 ranked light heavyweight contender and reigning DEEP light heavyweight champion, Yoshiyuki Nakanishi, by first round knockout at WFC 18 on 16 June 2013.  The victory earned “Rodja” a spot in the GLOBAL-MMA light heavyweight top 10 as he sits currently at number 9.  “Rodja” improved his record to 12-4 with the victory.  Nakanishi fell to number 10 following the knockout loss.  Raphael Davis was removed from the rankings following the entrance of “Rodja” Radosavljevic.

Ryan Martinez: Ryan Martinez entered the GLOBAL-MMA heavyweight top 10 after finishing top 10 ranked Rich Hale in the first round with punches at Bellator 96 on 19 June 2013.  Martinez will move on to the Bellator Summer Series heavyweight tournament finals.  Hale dropped to the contender list following the defeat.  

Vitaly Minakov: Russian standout heavyweight, Vitaly Minakov, looked as impressive as ever, by smashing Ron Sparks in the first round at Bellator 96.  Minakov moved up the contenders list following the victory.  Minakov will face Ryan Martinez in the Bellator Summer Series heavyweight tournament.  

Jacob Noe: Jacob Noe forced referee Kerry Hatley to call a stop to his bout against Renato “Babalu” Sobral in the late stages of the third round at Bellator 96.  Noe entered the light heavyweight contenders list as long time veteran Sobral fell from the rankings.  Noe will now enter the Bellator Summer Series light heavyweight tournament finals.  Renato “Babalu” Sobral announced his retirement after the fight.

Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal: Top 3 ranked light heavyweight, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal, made easy work of Seth Petruzelli by finishing “The Silverback” with a devastating knockout punch on the ground in 1 minute 35 seconds of the first round at Bellator 96.  “King Mo” maintained his spot at number 3 following the KO victory.  Jacob Noe is next on the list for “King Mo” as the two will be paired up in the Bellator Summer Series light heavyweight finals.

Yasubey Enomoto: Two top 10 welterweights clashed at Fight Nights – Battle of Moscow 12 on 20 June 2013 where Yasubey Enomoto earned a unanimous decision victory over Shamil Zavurov.  Enomoto moved up one spot into the top 5 with the victory.  Zavurov dropped to number 10.

Alexey Oleinik: Veteran Russian fighter, Alexey Oleinik, entered the GLOBAL-MMA heavyweight top 10 rankings by submitting grappling ace, Jeff Monson, with a rear-naked choke in the second round at Oplot Challenge 67 on 20 June 2013.  Oleinik sits in the 7th spot in the heavyweight rankings as Monson dropped to the contenders list following his second straight defeat.  Oleinik is now on a five fight win streak including a recent triangle choke submission victory over Tony Lopez.  Oleinik also holds a past victory over number 9 ranked Thiago Santos.  Rich Hale dropped from the rankings following the entrance of Oleinik.

Daniel Romero: Gladiator Challenge veteran, Daniel Romero, finished DREAM featherweight champion, Hiroyuki Takaya, by TKO in the first round at Vale Tudo Japan – VTJ 2nd on 22 June 2013.  The victory earned Romero a spot at number 6 in the featherweight rankings while Takaya dropped to the 9th spot.  Honorio Banario was removed from the rankings following the entrance of Romero.

Kyoji Horiguchi: Shooto bantamweight champion, Kyoji Horiguchi, finished Pancrase bantamweight champion, Shintaro Ishiwatari, with punches in the fifth round at Vale Tudo Japan - VTJ 2nd.  The comeback victory earned Horiguchi a spot in the bantamweight contenders list.  Ishiwatari was removed from the rankings due to the entrance of Horiguchi.

Max Nunes: Top BAMMA light heavyweight, Max Nunes, finished Justin Davis with punches in the first round at GWC – The British Invasion: U.S. vs. U.K. on 29 June 2013.  Nunes moved up one spot in the contenders list with the victory.

Akihiro Murayama: Akihiro Murayama earned a unanimous decision victory over Yuki Kondo at Pancrase – 248 on 30 June 2013.  The decision did not affect Murayama’s welterweight standing in the rankings.

Kazuhiro Nakamura: DEEP middleweight champion, Kazuhiro Nakamura, finished Daijiro Matsui with knees and punches in 1 minute 30 seconds of the first round at King Kaz Fight – Fukuyama on 30 June 2013.  Nakamura’s middleweight contenders ranking was unchanged after the victory.

Aleksander Emelianenko: Aleksander Emelianenko finished Jose Guelke with a flurry of punches in the first round at ProFC 49: Resurrection on 04 July 2013.  The victory did not affect Aleksander’s ranking status.

Global-MMA Ranking Rules

*This ranking system includes fighters that are not under exclusive contract to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

*Top level fighters that leave the UFC may be ranked in subsequent rankings.

*Fighters that sign exclusively to the UFC will be removed from the rankings.

*Rankings are based on a fighter's overall career results and recent performance.
 
*A fighter will be ranked number one if he defeats the number one ranked fighter in the weight division except under certain rare circumstances where the number two ranked fighter clearly deserves to move into the number one ranking position. 

*Victories over highly ranked fighters and losses against non-ranked opponents have a larger effect on the fighters ranking position.

*A fighter will not necessarily take the place of his opponent in the rankings after a victory or a loss.
 
* A fighter can move up a maximum of three spots with impressive victories over a fighter ranked below him; however, there is no limit if the fighter earned a title or a tournament championship with the victory.
 
* An unranked newly crowned champion who earned a title in a major league MMA promotion can enter the top ten even with a victory over an unranked fighter.
 
*A fighter will drop in the rankings if he does not fight regularly against high level competition.
 
*A top ten ranked fighter can become ranked in another weight division after one or more wins in his new weight class.
 
*A fighter can be ranked in two different weight divisions.

*Champions and fighters from prominent promotions will have an advantage over champions and fighters from promotions with lesser competition.
 
*A fighter will be removed from the rankings if he does not fight for two years.

*Fighters that are signed to multiple promotions will have their promotions listed based on the following criteria: 1) championship held in a promotion, 2) predominant promotion the fighter fights in, 3) promotion
last fought in.

*Rankings will be updated every month.

Willie, Peter Graham would have been added but two new heavyweights were added to the top 10 this month with wins over top 10 fighters. 

Dagwood, Minakov would have been two spots higher with his win but after the two additional heavyweights were added he only moved up one.  If he beats Martinez in 3 weeks from now, Minkov will be ranked at number 8 in the rankings next month.

 Rumble/Rampage would be a sick fight. Would love to see that one.  I hope they have him fight King Mo without much a wait.  I have  been wanting to see this fight for a while.  Maybe give Page a tune up fight or two and then make the King Mo fight.

Aleksandar Radosavljevic, WFC LHW champ that just finished DEEP LHW champ Nakanishi in the 1st round, retired so he will be removed next month.  Raphael Davis will probably return.  He is only 29 years old or so and a solid fighter from Serbia.  Sucks he decided to call it quits.  He is 12-4 with 9 finishes including this impressive recent victory over Nakanishi.  The fight with Nakanishi from WFC 18 a few weeks ago is worth checking out on Youtube.

Cyborg number 1 and Rousey number 2.  Cyborg was number 1 prior to the PEDs deal and she served her suspension and is back on a tear.  I think she should keep the top spot. 

I think if they fought, Cyborg would win.  Would definitely love to see that fight one day, hopefully soon.  They need to just pick 135, 140, or 145 and make that fight happen.  It shouldn't be this hard fighting over a 10 lbs weight difference.  Just f****ing fight already.

Id still honestly rank Fujii ahead of Rousey in P4P rankings. If she didn't get ripped against Zoila, she could have still been number one possibly.

Serbian LHW Aleksandar Radosavljevic vs. DEEP LHW champion Yoshiyuki Nakanishi in WFC 18 just weeks ago for the WFC LHW title is worth watching.  Nakanishi was a top 5 LHW last month and has been in the top 10 for a while.  Video below:

Rousey is not #2 on a p4p ranking no way in hell, this is the whole Lesnar thing all over again.

MMA Weekly just gave Cyborg the top spot in the women's top 10 rankings based on her win this weekend.  Good to see.   I think she deserves that IMO.

It's laughable that Fuji is 7th though and there are notable Invicta, DEEP, Bellator,..., fighters not included.

We're talking about women's P4P. There's obviously only three women worth mentioning for the P4P argument.

May be time for a G-MMA women's ranking.  UFC has there own rankings like the other divisions.

 Do you have time for this?  Separating the strawweight and Jr FLW would be cool too.  Only thing missing then is Super Heavyweight Division.

Yeah, I could definitely work on it sometime this month.

As for splitting Jr and strawweight, it just isn't plausible at this point time, since the divisions simply don't have enough depth separately.

I don't know if I'd have Bibi @ but I don't know who I'd have there. The top guys there could be interchangeable a bit imo.

I may be biased because I don't particularly care for the guy, though.

I just can't see anyone else being ahead of Bibi at this point in time. Dantas had the best chance and I believe he was first at one time, but his loss to Nam set him back.
