After years of Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling Bagautinov became a world combat sambo champion in Minsk 2012.[1]
World Sambo Championships 2012 - Quarter-finals: Bagautinov def. Belarusian Sambo fighter Novitski Vladislav via Decision (15-0).
Semi-finals: Bagautinov def. Kyrgyzian Sambo Master Razykov Alibek via TKO at 2:19 in first round (retirement).
Final: Bagautinov def. Asset Sagyndykov via submission (armbar) at 0:35 in first round.
Mixed martial arts career
Early career
Bagautinov made his professional MMA debut in December 2009. He is veteran Russian MMA promotion Fight Nights where he has record 8-1; Bagautinov compiled a record of 10-2 before signing with the UFC. He was listed as one of the top flyweight prospects in 2013.[2]
Ultimate Fighting Championship
It was announced in June 2013 that Bagautinov had signed with the UFC.[3]
In his debut, Bagautinov faced Marcos Vinicius on September 4, 2013 at UFC Fight Night 28.[4] After a back-and-forth first two rounds, Bagautinov won the fight via TKO in the third round, after dropping Vinicius with a straight right hand.
Bagautinov is expected to fight Tim Elliott on November 16, 2013 at UFC 167.[5]
