Marat Gafurov leaves M-1 for One FC

Marat Gafurov is undefeated after eight fights, having emerged as the top Featherweight from Europe in recent years. He possesses deadly ground and pound that has led him to six finishes so far. Prior to signing with ONE FC, he was the reigning M-1 Global Featherweight Champion. He joins an exciting Featherweight division that is currently ruled by Koji Oishi and there is no doubt that Gafurov will be looking to earn himself a title opportunity in the near future.

^I think M-1 may be doing away with their FW division which would be smart based on the number of shows they run. They can focus on their champs and top fighters in all their other divisions from LW-HW.

Good signing for ONE FC though.

I hope that they are shutting down their HW division. It's so hard watching so many of their top guys going somewhere else.

This makes sense. Imo M-1 should put all focus on HW and LHW.

Not a good move you don't allow your top guy to walk away just like that IMO! An mma company should have competition in all weight classes not only 1 or 2 , gafurov is a solid fighter for sure

M-1 should do the Pride thing and only have four weight classes. Heavyweight, Middleweight, Welterweight, and Lightweight.

If we're going to be honest, M-1's featherweight division was a waste of time. Not enough time to grow and not enough experience. I don't blame them for letting Gafurov go.

They hope they keep the best HW division outside UFC together and hold onto them. Yeah, it sucks watching their roster get picked apart like this. With Gafurov though, they may just be doing away with the FW division based on the number of events they hold each year. Not sure.

Agreed with their main focus on HW and LHW.

Who on lhw nemkov and? Is not that deep, their truly deep division is only hw IMO!

Absolutely.

ONE FC's original goal was to get world champions from all over to compete against one another. Would be awesome to see Gafurov vs. Aoki for the strap.

Yeah, that's the fight to make for sure. Aoki should fight at 145 and 155 and go for both belts (he already has one). His last fight was at 155.

hopefully he'll get some good fights in ONE.
