M-1, Vadim, & Fedor beat zuffa into the 'real' 1B+ mainland communist People's Republic of China. The biggest MMA market in the world X3. It's not certain that the UFC will ever get there with their ignorance of the way China itself works nor the intricacies of doing business in a communist country with state run sport. Guess what... Fedor grew up in the original communist state and Vadim did business there for years. The Russian Ministry of Sport which Fedor works for still has organizational & structural holdover from the USSR days.
Mainland communist China is 'not' an open market. Securing an event in Honk Kong or Macau, which are very westernized, is way different from securing events & getting state accreditation or state TV coverage & promotion on the Chinese mainland.
Sport is married to the state in mainland China as was dictated by Mao. Heavy-handed egotistical white western business people are not exactly the optimum business profile for entry and/or success in that marketplace. For damn sure someone that acts & speaks like Dana does in business with extremely vulgar language and no sense of honor or respect is gonna get shut down there.

Does M-1 even have any Chinese fighters?

Not sure. It could be like M-1 Korea but maybe not independently owned/licensed. So a division of M-1 with Chinese nationals. Then they can also do bigger shows with M-1 Challenge bring in their top guys with M-1 China guys on the card too. That's what I'm thinking.

I hope they can get into some sort of working agreement with RUFF or even the old Art of War guys. Gashimov already presents an in-road with RUFF, though.
If they can't manage to do that, M-1 China will take a long time to develop. The talent level is still relatively shallow, as seen as late as the relatively recent TUF: China and early as the first ONE FC event. The only positive being they will have plenty of choice.

They could make a legit #1 contender match with Smoldarev, but Denis pretty much already earned the next shot, so they probably won't do that.
Sergei vs. Ishii is China would be amazing.

He finished 5 out of 6 opponents since 2010, only losing to Barnett when Sergei had diarrhea. Kharitonov is still better than 90% of the UFC heavyweights and very relevant.fka wrote:Kharitonov has looked bad last like 4 fights really on his last legs.

Real good title fight. I think Tybura will be too much for him though.
