After 28 pro MMA fights, Seigo Mizoguchi (a.k.a. SEIGO) is retiring from the sport.
This would have been just another veteran leaving MMA but this whole situation surrounding his retirement bout is little unusual.
Originally, Mizoguchi's retirement bout was supposed be held in March because DEEP was planning on promoting the show at Ota Ward Gymnasium. Mizoguchi currently lives and works in Ota. The timing was perfect. And, Mizoguchi requested UFC / PRIDE veteran Kazuhiro Nakamura as his last opponent, because ever since he moved to Tokyo from his Toyama prefecture, Nakamura has been taking care of him.
DEEP asked Mizoguchi to consider doing this retirement bout in March 22 show at Differ Ariake, however, a 38-year old was persistent on doing his last fight at Ota Ward Gymnasium.
So, Mizoguchi fought Ryo Sakai in this March 22 show while Nakamura challenged Ken Hasegawa's DEEP megaton (open-weight) title in the same show.
During these process, something must have happened between Mizoguchi and Nakamura. "King Kaz" is very upset about how Mizoguchi tried to solve the issue with just communication via LINE instead of actually meeting Nakamura in person. Therefore, when DEEP came to Nakamura about this retirement fight in July, he first said no. DEEP head Shigeru Saeki apparently had to convince Nakamura by explaining, "Just consider this as another one professional job."
Both Nakamura and Mizoguchi aren't talking on detail of what has happened, but at the press conference held on Wednesday in Tokyo, a veteran from Yoshida Dojo looked nothing but pissed.
Nakamrua firmly said, "Instead of being 'kaishaku-nin' (assistant in hara-kiri) I will pay off old scores", and showed some of the LINE communications he had with Mizuguchi to the reporters.
However, Mizoguchi didn't look bothered by this.
"I was selfish about asking to do this at Ota Ward Gymnasium. If Kaz accepted this fight as a 'job' then I am going to switch my mode and I am going for a win. Usually I don't train much but this is my last fight so I should train. I am going to show him I am stronger in judo too."

I don't think that at all.
imo...This site isn't anti-Zuffa, it's pro-mma
Then why is half of the posting here bitching about Zuffa and not talking about other MMA orgs? The Deep thread gets jack shit discussed but we're all supposed to be enlightened hardcore MMA fans.
SRC wrote:There is no good discussion in those threads because nobody has anything worth while to talk about because the majority of posters on this site don't know shit about mma and blame zuffa as a result.
Criticizing Zuffa is fine, but it happens in every threads and doesn't cease when Zuffa has nothing to do with a majority of the shit that's being talked about or doesn't need to be discussed.

Honestly, what else could be said? Lol. This is a very underwhelming offering from DEEP.

You don't think it's important to propagate worldwide mma? The card sucks but it's still JMMA.

You know exactly what I´m talking about. SRC comes here to bash everyone for not discussing this card/having poor knowledge and he doesn´t leave any good comments himself. Then you say there´s not much to say since the card sucks. Most members here have great knowledge about the sport and there´s plenty of good discussion about non-zuffa promotions. I shouldn´t even have to tell you this after all this time.wekka wrote:Golden Age wrote:Then why does SRC think it´s so important to discuss this card?wekka wrote:Honestly, what else could be said? He was probably talking about the last card, which was fantastic and had little to no discussion either.

When the japanese promotions sign or create great fighters in the bigger divisions there will be alot of discussion. Combat sports fans are usually more interested in the heavy divisions and that´s what made PRIDE so great. The east euro mma scene has way better heavyweights and therefore there´s more discussion in those threads.wekka wrote:He was probably talking about the last card, which was fantastic and had little to no discussion either.

That's just not viable right now, as a whole for JMMA at least. IGF is trying to do exactly what you want but will it be long term? If they can't resign Ishii, they're basically done with the MMA venture. I hope they give it time in all honesty.
Otherwise, I feel as if the Japanese still ultimately want to see a competitve presence worldwide, which they haven't effectively done in recent times. Outside of Ishii and Okami, what high level fighters do Japan produce at higher weight class? That's why they focus so much on lighter weights, that's why Horiguchi has a chance to beat the best flyweight in the world. That's Japan's class right now.
I'm also sure you'd get better paydays as a wrestler nowadays and those companies will never have any relationship with MMA again, thus a further lack of potential in the heavys. Future still has a glimmer of hope. Hasegawa looks like an interesting prospect and there's always potential of Olympic athletes joining in, which would be greatly appreciated.
