GLOBAL-MMA Ranking Rules
- This ranking system includes only fighters that are not under exclusive contract to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) or Strikeforce.
- Top level fighters that leave the UFC or Strikeforce may be ranked in subsequent rankings.
- Fighters that sign exclusively to the UFC or Strikeforce will be removed from the rankings.
- Fighters that are signed to non-exclusive contracts with Strikeforce, who fight for other MMA promotions (excluding the UFC), may be included in the rankings.
- Rankings are based on a fighter's overall career results and recent performance.
- Victories over highly ranked fighters and losses against non-ranked opponents have a larger effect on the fighters ranking position.
- A fighter will not necessarily take the place of his opponent after a victory or a loss against a ranked fighter.
- A fighter will be ranked number one if he defeats the number one ranked fighter in the weight division.
- A fighter will drop in the rankings if he does not fight regularly against high level competition.
- If a fighter does not fight for two years he will be removed from the rankings.
- A fighter can be ranked in two different weight divisions.
- A highly ranked fighter can get a high ranking in another weight division after one or more wins in his new weight division.
- Champions and fighters from reputable promotions will have an advantage over champions and fighters from promotions with lesser competition.
- Fighters that are signed to multiple promotions will have their promotions listed based on the following criteria: a) championship held in a promotion, b) predominant promotion the fighter fights in, c) promotion last fought in.
- Rankings will be updated every month.
GLOBAL-MMA Ranking Update Summary (March 2012)
- Featherweight and Bantamweight divisions are now included in the rankings.
- Other Contenders list was expanded from three fighters to five fighters. A number of very skilled fighters were added due to this change; such as, Marcus Vanttinen, Michal Materla, Alexander Yakovlev, Myung Ho Bae (LFC Welterweight Champion), and Ricardo Tirloni.
- GLOBAL-MMA highly ranked fighters Nate Marquardt and Glover Texeira were removed from the GLOBAL-MMA rankings after signing exclusive contracts with Zuffa.
- KSW light heavyweight champion, Jan Blachowicz, moved up in the rankings from number 5 to number 4 with his victory over Mario Miranda at "KSW 18" on 25 February 2012. That victory and the fact that Blachowicz has a past victory over Bellator champion, Christian M’Pumbu, was reason enough to give him a boost in the rankings and the nod over M’Pumbu for the fourth place spot. M’Pumbu is coming off a loss to Travis Wiuff so he will need to defend his title soon to prevent further decline. Number 6 ranked DEEP champion, Yoshiyuki Nakanishi, also holds a victory over M’Pumbu so if Nakanishi comes away with a “W” in his next fight, against a solid opponent, he may also jump past the Bellator champion.
- Former Sengoku middleweight champion and UFC veteran, Jorge Santiago, had an impressive KO victory over Leonardo Pecanha at “Titan Fighting Championship 21” on Friday, 02 March 2012. The victory moves Santiago slightly closer to the top ten middleweight rankings.
- BAMMA and Strikeforce welterweight Paul Daley fell several spots in the rankings after dropping a split decision to Kazuo Misaki at “Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey” on 03 March 2012. Misaki made his welterweight debut against Daley and was impressive enough to outpoint the British striker.
- Russian light heavyweight Mikhail Zayats put on an impressive performance against Finish standout prospect Juha Saarinen at “Cage 18” on 03 March 2012. Officials were forced to call a stop to the fight due to a bad cut close to Saarinen’s eye after he was battered for two rounds by the M-1 Global veteran.
- Upcoming GLOBAL-MMA Top Ranked Fights:

8. Shooto - 1
9. TPF - 1
10. AFC - 1
So for the 70 fighters listed, 9 promotions (plus 2 free agents) have fighters ranked in the GLOBAL top 10. Bellator, M-1 Global, and DREAM are dominating the rankings right now. 81 percent of the fighters listed compete in either Bellator, M-1 Global, or DREAM.
Thanks. They definitely show who the top 3 organizations are outside Zuffa (Bellator, M-1, and DREAM). KSW, ONE FC, and Legend FC will probably be building some top notch fighters soon. Those promotions have a lot of potential as well. I just found out that Yuya Shirai (DEEP champ) will be fighting at the next ONE FC event on March 31st. ONE should start crowning new champs. They have some talented fighters on their roster.
There are 22 fights with these fighters coming up in March and already an additional 4 that will take place in April. March is going to be a great month for global MMA.
Zuffa (SF and UFC) do not have another event planned for 6 weeks which is their longest stretch in a while. Bellator, M-1, ONE FC, Legend FC, DEEP, and reportedly DREAM have a number of events coming in March and April. The DREAM event is rumored in April plus they are fighter sharing for the ONE FC event. Also, the KSW 19 event is being worked out right now and the Khalidov vs. Lombard fight is being negotiated from what I read today.

22 ranked fights in march, that´s crazy. The rankings make the fights even more interesting and important. ONE FC should put on 2-3 titlefights on every card.

I agree that having a ranking system makes these fights more interesting as well. I am looking forward to all these fights.
Yeah, Legend is having title fights on all their events so ONE FC needs to start doing the same. They both have some great fighters.

Thanks for catching that. I corrected that in the OP and added a number of ONE FC fights that were just announced:
- Yoshiyuki Nakanishi vs. Melvin Manhoef (ONE FC 3, 31 March 2012)
- Masakazu Imanari vs. Kevin Belingon (ONE FC 3, 31 March 2012)
- Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. TBD (ONE FC 3, 31 March 2012)
- Yuya Shirai vs. Fabricio Monteiro (ONE FC 3, 31 March 2012)
Great replacement for Babalu going with top ranked DEEP LHW champ to fight Manhoef. Can't wait for that fight. Also, Yuya Shirai, DEEP welterweight champ (also ranked in top 10) will be fighting on this card.
Hopefully they will announce Kawajiri's opponent soon. This card is awesome now with 5 of our ranked fighters (including other contenders). Should be great.

Yeah, I actually prefer this fight over Babalu vs. Manhoef. It will be sweet to see Nakanishi really (really) tested here.

Yeah, it is hard not to pull for Manhoef in nearly any fight. The guy is such an exciting fighter. You can almost guarantee anytime he fights that either someone is going to sleep or he will be tapping out to sub. It will be interesting to see how the DEEP champ fairs against him.

Agreed, the ONE FC card is awesome. I wish HDNet would pick them up since Sengoku is no longer around. I guess for now I will just be ordering the $10 PPVs on the Internet. At least the quality of the stream is really good and they have English commentating.
