Yes I think he deserves the #1 spot. Thomson, Kawajiri, Masvidal and Aoki are all world class fighters and very underrated among the casual fans. He even beat Thomson and Kawajiri twice.moronoRepublic wrote:Melendez is number one based on his resume alone. He's avenged every defeat and reigned supreme against numerous top ten opponents. His hate is unwarranted. Most Sherdoggers probably don't even remember him being number one years ago before the first Thomson fight.

Masvidak is fringe top ten but a good win nonetheless.
Thomson is perennial top ten when healthy.
Although inconsistent, Kawajiri stayed among the top five.
Aoki had a case for number one until the Melendez fight and had a slew of top ten wins from 07-10.
Edgar hasn't really defeated anyone of that caliber other than Penn, Maynard, and a pre top ten Miller.
Bendo has a win against Edgar, Miller, and Guida but that doesn't really constitute a number one ranking.

I´ve never been impressed by Maynard tbh. He only finished Joshua Powell and Joe Veres.moronoRepublic wrote:Masvidak is fringe top ten but a good win nonetheless.

As long as you win, you'll be a top fighter regardless of being a potent finisher.
Outside of Nate Diaz, no on ever really served as a problem for him. That is until Edgar's comebacks.
He was definitely top five along with Melendez, Aoki, Alvarez, and Edgar/Penn
