Robichaux replaces Garcia, meets Campuzano in Legacy FC 12 flyweight title fight
Fri Jun 01, 2012 5:30 pm
An injury has forced Steve Garcia (9-5) out of an upcoming title fight with Will Campuzano (10-4), and Bellator and Strikeforce vet Chad Robichaux (14-2) has taken his place.
The five-round title fight headlines Legacy Fighting Championship 12 and earns the winner the organization's vacant flyweight title.
The event takes place July 13 at Houston's Arena Theater. The night's main card airs on HDNet.
Legacy FC officials recently announced the change and said Garcia suffered an undisclosed injury during training.
Campuzano, a former UFC and WEC bantamweight, was bounced from Zuffa following back-to-back losses to Nick Pace and Chris Cariaso in early 2011. However, he got back in the win column with a first-round submission victory over Randy Hinds in April 2011, and most recently, he knocked out Joshua Sampo with a head kick at a regional show this past month.
He now takes on Robichaux, who began his career with a 13-0 mark before a loss to Bellator champion Zach Makovsky and a Legacy FC defeat to Jonathan Mackles. However, the 13-year vet recently got back in the win column with a 51-second victory over recent UFC fighter Joseph Sandoval. It marked his 13th submission victory in 14 career wins.
Legacy FC 12 features some other big-show vets. Scheduled bouts include UFC/Strikeforce/Bellator vet Jay Hieron (22-5) vs. Mike Bronzoulis (13-5-1) and world-class grappler Robert Drysdale (3-0) vs. middleweight Isaac "Ike" Villanueva (8-6).
