GLOBAL-MMA Ranking Update Summary (November 2012)

Wilson Reis was removed from the rankings following the entrance of Shamhalaev.

Mike Richman: Mike Richman entered the featherweight rankings with a 23 second head kick knockout of Jeremy Spoon at Bellator 76 to move on in the Bellator featherweight tournament. Joachim Hansen was removed from the rankings following the entrance of Richman.

Wagnney Fabiano: Wagnney Fabiano returned to the cage after a nearly two year layoff from the sport to enter the Bellator featherweight tournament. Fabiano did not miss a beat as he pulled off an armbar submission on Akop Stepanyan in the first round at Bellator 76. Fabiano was removed from the top 10 bantamweight rankings due to the change in weight class as he now sits at number 6 in the GLOBAL-MMA featherweight rankings. Legend FC featherweight champion, Yusuke Kawanago, was dropped from the rankings due to the entrance of Fabiano. Pancrase champion, Shintaro Ishiwatari, entered the bantamweight rankings due to the removal of Fabiano.

Patricky Freire: Patricky Freire slid a couple spots down the other contenders list in the lightweight rankings after suffering a first round head kick knockout loss to GLOBAL-MMA lightweight king pin Eddie Alvarez. Patricky has dropped three of his last four fights as he continues his descent down the lightweight rankings. Albeit, all the losses have come to the lightweight division’s elite. Eddie Alvarez remains atop the rankings following the impressive victory.

Aslambek Saidov: Top KSW welterweight title contender Aslambek Saidov was dropped from the rankings after suffering a first round TKO loss to Morten Djursaa at EMA – Fight Night in Aarhus on 13 October 2012. The victory was not enough to earn Djursaa a spot in the rankings. Bellator welterweight tournament semi-finalist, Lyman Good, entered the rankings following the removal of Saidov.

Katsunori Kikuno: Katsunori Kikuno fought to a majority draw against DEEP lightweight contender Yasuaki Kishimoto at DEEP 60 Impact on 19 October 2012. Kikuno maintained his spot in the lightweight contenders list following the draw.

Ryuta Sakurai: Ryuta Sakurai dropped a majority decision to Kazuhiro Nakamura at DEEP 60 Impact. Sakurai was removed from the middleweight rankings due to the loss. The decision victory was not enough to earn Nakamura a spot in the rankings. Top World Series of Fighting middleweight and former UFC title contender, Thales Leites, entered the middleweight rankings following Sakurai’s removal.

Yoshiyuki Nakanishi: DEEP light heavyweight champion, Yoshiyuki Nakanishi, defeated Yuki Niimura via decision at DEEP 60 to maintain his status in the GLOBAL-MMA top 10.

Rich Clementi: Rich Clementi made his return to the Bellator cage to enter the Bellator lightweight tournament at Bellator 77 on 19 October 2012. Clementi took on GLOBAL-MMA ranked contender Alexander Sarnavskiy in the quarterfinals of the tournament where he earned a split decision victory over the previously undefeated Russian. Clementi moved into the GLOBAL-MMA other contenders list due to the victory as he moves on to the Bellator lightweight semifinals which will be held on 16 December 2012. Clementi will take on submission wizard Marcin Held for a spot in the Bellator tournament finals. Alexander Sarnavskiy was removed from the rankings due to the loss.

Maxim Grishin: Maxim Grishin finished William Hill by TKO in the first round at NAAFS – Caged Vengence 12 on 20 October 2012. Grishin’s ranking status was not changed after the victory.

Brian Rogers: GLOBAL-MMA ranked middleweight contender Brian Rogers returned to the cage at Bellator 78 on 26 October 2012 defeating Dominique Steele by unanimous decision. The victory did not affect Rogers’ ranking status.

Daniel Straus: Top 10 ranked featherweight Daniel Straus returned to the cage at Bellator 78. Straus defeated BJJ black belt Alvin Robinson with a rear-naked choke submission in the second round. The victory did not affect Straus’ ranking status.

Andrey Koreshkov: Undefeated Russian standout fighter Andrey Koreshkov entered the GLOBAL-MMA welterweight rankings by brutally smashing former DREAM champion Marius Zaromskis just over two minutes of the first round at Bellator 78. Koreshkov dominated Zaromskis throughout the fight as he finished with a series of punches. Koreshkov entered the Bellator welterweight tournament finals with the victory. Marius Zaromskis was removed from the rankings following the defeat as Koreshkov made his entrance.

Lyman Good: Former Bellator welterweight champion Lyman Good continued his winning ways by finishing Michail Tsarev by TKO in the second round at Bellator 78. With the victory Good advances to the finals of the Bellator welterweight tournament where he will face Andrey Koreshkov. The winner of that fight will be scheduled to take on GLOBAL-MMA welterweight kingpin Ben Askren for a shot at the Bellator welterweight title. Good is now on the cusp of cracking into the GLOBAL-MMA welterweight top ten.

Mikhail Zayats: Light heavyweight contender Mikhail Zayats defeated Marcin Elsner at ADW – Abu Dhabi Warriors on 02 November 2012 by guillotine choke in the second round. The victory did not affect Zayats ranking status.

Kazunori Yokota: DEEP featherweight champion Kazunori Yokota defeated Anatoly Safronov at ADW with a rear-naked choke in the third round. The victory did not affect the status of the DEEP champion’s ranking.

Travis Wiuff: Top 5 light heavyweight, Travis Wiuff, stepped up in weight class to take on Maro Perak in a heavyweight bout at ADW. Wiuff dropped a close split decision to Perak. The loss did not affect Wiuff’s ranking status in the light heavyweight division. The Croatian fighter Perak is one to watch out for in the heavyweight division as he stands with an impressive 22-3 record with 18 finishes and now a big win over a top ranked light heavyweight fighter.

Douglas Lima: Top 3 welterweight Douglas Lima returned to the Bellator cage on 02 November 2012 where he finished Jacob Ortiz with a head kick TKO in the third round at Bellator 79. The victory did not affect Lima’s ranking status.

Shahbulat Shamhalaev: Dagestan fighter Shahbulat Shamhalaev made quick work of Mike Richman at Bellator 79 finishing him with punches at 1 minute 45 seconds of the first round. The victory earned Shamhalaev a spot in the Bellator featherweight tournament finals. Shamhalaev moved up a couple spots in the other contenders list of the featherweight rankings as Mike Richman was removed from the rankings. Legend FC featherweight champion Yusuke Kawanago returned to the featherweight rankings following the removal of Richman.

Richard Hale: Richard Hale jumped to the third spot in the GLOBAL-MMA heavyweight rankings following an impressive comeback victory over Thiago Santos at Bellator 79. Hale knocked out one of Thiago’s teeth and finished the fight with punches to earn a spot in the Bellator heavyweight tournament finals. Thiago Santos dropped from the second spot in the rankings down to the seventh spot following the defeat.

Marlon Moraes: Marlon Moraes defeated top 10 ranked bantamweight Miguel Torres by split decision at WSOF 1 on 03 November 2012. Moraes entered the top 10 following the victory. Moraes will take on number 2 ranked Tyson Nam at the second WSOF event in January. Torres dropped to the other contenders list due to the defeat. Pancrase bantamweight champion Shintaro Ishiwatari was removed from the rankings following the entrance of Marlon Moraes.

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson: Anthony “Rumble” Johnson made quick work of CWFC heavyweight champion D.J. Linderman at WSOF 1 finishing him with a solid punch which left Linderman face planted on the canvas in the first round. “Rumble” Johnson moved up two spots to number 7 in the GLOBAL-MMA light heavyweight rankings with the impressive finish of Linderman.

Andrei Arlovski: Andrei Arlovski made his return to the cage at WSOF 1 finishing Devin Cole with a flurry of punches in the first round. Arlovski moved up a couple spots in the heavyweight contenders list following the TKO victory.

*Rankings are based on a fighter's overall career results and recent performance.

*Victories over highly ranked fighters and losses against non-ranked opponents have a larger effect on the fighters ranking position.

*A fighter will not necessarily take the place of his opponent after a victory or a loss against a ranked fighter.

* A fighter can move up a maximum of two spots with impressive victories over fighters ranked under them.

* A fighter must defeat a top three ranked fighter in order to enter the top three.

*A fighter will be ranked number one if he defeats the number one ranked fighter in the weight division.

*A fighter will drop in the rankings if he does not fight regularly against high level competition.

*If a fighter does not fight for two years he will be removed from the rankings.

*A fighter can be ranked in two different weight divisions.

GLOBAL-MMA Rankings (Outside Zuffa) - November 2012 Empty Re: GLOBAL-MMA Rankings (Outside Zuffa) - November 2012

There are two new ranking rules starting with these rankings below:

* A fighter can move up a maximum of two spots with impressive victories over fighters ranked under them.

* A fighter must defeat a top three ranked fighter in order to enter the top three.

I think this will help maintain the integrity of the rankings. Rankings are primarily based on defeating fighters ranked above a fighter to move up although in certain cases a fighter can move up by defeating a fighter below them in impressive fashion. Also, in order to get into the top 3, a fighter has to defeat a top 3 fighter.

I get your comments and I get where you're coming from. However, rankings are primarily based on defeating fighters ranked above a fighter to move up although in certain cases a fighter can move up by defeating a fighter below them in impressive fashion. So I added two new rules this month. I was considering adding these several weeks ago just after I posted the rankings last month.

This will help maintain the integrity of the rankings. We can't have fighters jumping 5 spots or 10 spots after a victory over some one ranked below them. Rankings are also not about I think fighter x would destroy fighter y. After rankings are in place, it has to be about wins and losses which drive fighters up and down the list or else the credibility of the system is lost.

The two new ranking rules state:

* A fighter can move up a maximum of two spots with impressive victories over fighters ranked under them.

* A fighter must defeat a top three ranked fighter in order to enter the top three.

He is fighting next month at DREAM NYE and he held a win over the prev. number 1 FW in Bibi. I have a rule that if a fighter does not fight for 2 years they will be removed entirely from the rankings. Fighters also will drop if they do not fight frequently against ranked opponents; however, with Takaya he fought last NYE and defended his title and it is difficult to start dropping the number 1 guy for not fighting when he will be fighting next month. We will see what happens in that fight. He may be fighting Kawajiri who could take the number 1 spot with a win over Takaya.

i get ii bro but is almost impossible for wsof fighters to move up when the ranked fighters were there before theyre company even started, imo you have to take a look at the quality of the opponents my friend...for example richard hale beat linderman by split dec and he ko thiago on friday...he is a natural lhw...so thiago has to drop out of the top 10 imo, he loose to an unranked 25 before friday...and arlovski is coming of 2 big wins over sylvia and cole...

the linderman example also at 205, richard hale the #3 hw fighter beat linderman by sd, and rumble almost killed him last night and still has wiuff coming off 2 losses, m'pumbu who hasnt fought this year and the deep champ who would get murderer if he faces rumble...

thats my opinion, we have to take the quality of opponents under consideration not just the ranked before the others because the majority of this guys will not fight each other, beacuse they fight in different promotions..

I was considering adding these several weeks ago just after I posted

The two new ranking rules state:

* A fighter can move up a maximum of two spots with impressive victories over fighters ranked under them.

thats my opinion, we have to take the quality of opponents under consideration not just the ranked before the others because the majority of this guys will not fight each other, beacuse they fight in different promotions..

It's not impossible at all. That is why I put that fighters can still move up 2 spots if they beat someone below them. I moved AA up two spots based on his win yesterday. I would have moved him up two spots for his win against Sylvia but the fight was officially ruled a NC so I couldn't as much as I wanted to since it was a BS call by the ref. Also, if AA fights outside the promotion, say at DREAM, he could move up further or if WSOF brings in ranked fighters he could move up even quicker.

Santos was ranked at number 2 as he kept moving up the rankings due to Fedor and Cole retiring and fighters dropping off above him. So after Hale defeated him, he became the top HW in Bellator and jumped to the 3rd spot (just below where Santos was ranked). It was a huge win for him. Santos dropped 5 full spots for losing a fight to another ranked fighter (Hale was ranked near the top of the contenders prior to this fight (basically a 12th ranked fighter)). Also, if Volkov wins in a few weeks he will move above Santos in the rankings. After that Volkov and Hale will fight and the winner will be a solid top 3 fighter and Bellator HW champ.

The rankings are primarily about wins and losses against ranked fighters. No system could be about I think he would kill him so he should be higher. No system could maintain any credibility for any length of time based on these rules. Linderman and Hale fought at 205. Now Hale is a HW and he defeated the previous number 2 fighter so he jumped into the top 3. Beating a top 3 fighter is huge in any ranking system (boxing, MMA, college football,....).

The quality of fighters is very important but once the system is established the primary factor for fighters moving up and down just has to be based on beating ranked fighters.

I understand that since there are 5 main promotions these guys fight for (84 percent of the fighters fight for one of the top 5) that some fighters may or may not fight. That is why I put in a rule that a fighter could move up 2 spots by defeating fighters ranked under them. This will allow guys to move up if they deserve it by beating other good fighters outside the promotion that may not be ranked. So a fighter could move all the way up to top 4 without beating a ranked fighter hypothetically. I had to put a restriction on this and I think 2 spots is a good reasonable number. I do not think it would be fair for guys to move up 4, 5, 8, or 10 spots by defeating fighters ranked under them.

I appreciate your comments as always and I do take everyone's comments into consideration when ranking these fighters. You can see how many of the fighters are based on suggestions I received from everyone in these threads. That is what this is all about (it is our ranking system) but there has to be some rules and restrictions to maintain a system like this.

Thanks for your comments.

Thanks man.

Regarding Santos, he was ranked at 2 last month since he kept moving up after Fedor retired and then Konrad retired. He lost to a ranked fighter in Hale on Friday (basically 12th ranked in the contender list) so I dropped him 5 spots which is a decent sized fall for a top 2 ranked fighter. If Volkov or Queiroz beat Hale in the finals the winner will move up and Santos will fall even further. Also, if Guram beats Garner, Santos will be at the bottom of the top 10 without even fighting. Monson could also move above him soon. If Volkov wins and Monson beats AA next month they could be above Santos as well soon, as fighters can move up (up to 2 spots) with big impressive wins against fighters ranked below them.

Still think a 125 and below ranking should be implemented by the beginning of 2013

thiago santos hasnt beated anybody, he won the first round beacuse prindle got dq, and friday he was ko by a natural lhw....arlovski comes off a big win(nc) over sylvia and a big ko over cole and he is not ranked????

and guram is 0-1 in 2012.....jesus christ

I get your comments and I get where you're coming from. However, rankings are primarily based on defeating fighters ranked above a fighter to move up although in certain cases a fighter can move up by defeating a
fighter
below them in impressive fashion. So I added two new rules this month.
I was considering adding these several weeks ago just after I posted
the rankings last month.

This will help maintain the integrity of the rankings. We can't have fighters jumping 5 spots or 10 spots after a victory over some one ranked below them.

The two new ranking rules state:

* A fighter can move up a maximum of two spots with impressive victories over fighters ranked under them.

* A fighter must defeat a top three ranked fighter in order to enter the top three.

i get ii bro but is almost impossible for wsof fighters to move up when the ranked fighters were there before theyre company even started, imo you have to take a look at the quality of the opponents my friend...for example richard hale beat linderman by split dec and he ko thiago on friday...he is a natural lhw...so thiago has to drop out of the top 10 imo, he loose to an unranked 25 before friday...and arlovski is coming of 2 big wins over sylvia and cole...

the linderman example also at 205, richard hale the #3 hw fighter beat linderman by sd, and rumble almost killed him last night and still has wiuff coming off 2 losses, m'pumbu who hasnt fought this year and the deep champ who would get murderer if he faces rumble...

thats my opinion, we have to take the quality of opponents under consideration not just the ranked before the others because the majority of this guys will not fight each other, beacuse they fight in different promotions..
