There's a petition in the White House to make MMA the national sport of the USA

NOTE: This is coming exclusively from Middle Easy.

In the White House, there's currently a petition to 'Declare mixed martial arts (MMA) the de facto national sport of the United States of America.' In order for the US government to make an official response on the petition, it needs 25,000 signatures by December 13th 2012. At the time of this article being published, the petition currently has 5. Check out the petition below.

" we petition the obama administration to:
Declare mixed martial arts (MMA) the de facto national sport of the United States of America.

We the people wish to declare the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) the national sport of the United States of America. We ask the Obama administration to make this de facto.

Every region has indigenous martial arts. Therefore this is something the entire world shares in common. The United States of America leads the way in promoting an organization which provides a crossroads for all martial arts-- the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), thus bringing the world together."

MMA is not indigenous to the USA or even the region of North America.

Why did they even mention UFC if they want mma to be national sport? If they want mma as a national sport they will have to create a National MMA Association. UFC is just one promotion with one owner (Zuffa).

It would be cool to have MMA as the national sport. I like a lot of different sports but MMA is head and shoulders above them all. Can't top the sport of combat and fighting. Best sport in the world.

1) this wont fly in the usa ...ever. 2)ufc would lose power in north america they wont go for this unless they will stay as top dog. 3) It's only the best sport to a small % of the population.

Yeah but that small % is right. Nothing beats two people in a cage or ring, using any martial art (aside from the deadly stuff) to determine who is the tougher man. It gets no better than that IMO. I love American football, hockey, lacrosse, basketball, boxing, soccer,...but none of those sports can touch MMA. That's why it would be a cool national sport. It's not the most watched sport or the most popular but it is popular and it is the best sport.

This national sport will always be either AMERICAN Football or Baseball.
