Bellator 84 ratings: Season finale draws second-highest numbers of season
Tue Dec 18, 2012 3:35 pm
This past weekend's Bellator 84 event was the second-highest rated show for the promotion's seventh season on MTV2.
The broadcast averaged 191,000 viewers, which is nearly double the average of Bellator 83's 105,000. It's also the promotion's best since Bellator 79, which averaged 220,000 viewers for a season high.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) on Tuesday confirmed the ratings information with industry sources.
Bellator 84 took place at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind., about 20 miles from downtown Chicago. The event was scheduled to feature two tournament finals in the heavyweight and lightweight tournaments. But because lightweight finalist Marcin Held (15-2 MMA, 4-1 BFC) is only 20, he was not allowed to fight on the card against Dave Jansen (18-2 MMA, 5-0 BFC) and their fight had to be pushed to Season 8, which will air on Spike TV.
The finals in the Season 7 heavyweight tournament, however, did take place, with Alexander Volkov (19-3 MMA, 3-0 BFC) beating Richard Hale (21-5-1 MMA, 6-2 BFC) by unanimous decision to become the promotion's new heavyweight champion.
Also on the card, Felice Herrig (8-4 MMA, 2-0 BFC) dominated Patricia Vidonic (7-4 MMA, 0-1 BFC) in a rematch between the two.
With the latest event, the last of the season, Bellator's 11 Season 7 events averaged 162,000 viewers.
