GLOBAL-MMA Ranking Rules

*This ranking system includes fighters that are not under exclusive contract to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

*Top level fighters that leave the UFC may be ranked in subsequent rankings.

*Fighters that sign exclusively to the UFC will be removed from the rankings.

*Rankings are based on a fighter's overall career results and recent performance.

*A fighter will be ranked number one if he defeats the number one ranked fighter in the weight division except under certain rare circumstances where the number two ranked fighter clearly deserves to move into the number one ranking position.

*Victories over highly ranked fighters and losses against non-ranked opponents have a larger effect on the fighters ranking position.

*A fighter will not necessarily take the place of his opponent in the rankings after a victory or a loss.

* A fighter can move up a maximum of three spots with impressive victories over a fighter ranked below him; however, there is no limit if the fighter earned a title or a tournament championship with the victory.

* An unranked newly crowned champion who earned a title in a major league MMA promotion can enter the top ten even with a victory over an unranked fighter.

*A fighter will drop in the rankings if he does not fight regularly against high level competition.

*A top ten ranked fighter can become ranked in another weight division after one or more wins in his new weight class.

*A fighter can be ranked in two different weight divisions.

*Champions and fighters from prominent promotions will have an advantage over champions and fighters from promotions with lesser competition.

*A fighter will be removed from the rankings if he does not fight for two years.

*Fighters that are signed to multiple promotions will have their promotions listed based on the following criteria: 1) championship held in a promotion, 2) predominant promotion the fighter fights in, 3) promotion
last fought in.

*Rankings will be updated every month.

Kharitonov needs to consistently drop each month please. I'm really tired of him even being ranked at all seeing as it's now been a year since he's even competed in MMA. I truly think it takes legitimacy away from our rankings.

Yeah, that sounds right. I'll keep dropping him. There are a couple others that need to stop dropping soon as well for inactivity.

Yeah, that's where I'll place him. I just dropped several others for next month as well since they haven't fought for over 14 months.

I'm also thinking you might need to change the inactivity rule from two to one year.

I could state after one year of inactivity a fighter will begin dropping in the rankings, which I have been doing at about 12 - 14 months of inactivity and will be removed after 2 years. I have it as removal after two years in case a top fighter has an injury and returns in 15 months or something along these lines which is common. That is also why I didn't add a drop rule after 12 months, in case someone returns in 13 or 14 months. I will give it a bit more thought if something should be re-written.

I agree that for the most part, after about a year or so (unless there is an injury) fighters should start falling in the ranks when inactive.

2 years is a really long time to be inactive. Not only that, if a fighter is gone for 2 years, you don't even know how he is going to come back.

I really think 1 year of inactivity is reasonable, 15 months tops. That's just me though.

here are my suggestions respectfully...

-hw's- konstantin gluhov is way to high...its not even close, the guy is 2-3 in his last 5, wins vs valentijn(30-29 record) and a split dec win(wich i dont agree) win vs deuce does not make him #2 in the world, i think this is horrible to be honest....

in the other hand were is peter graham????? he is not even in the contenders and has 2 wins vs the #2 guy...wow, he has won 7 in a row

and finally take sergei off the rankings he has no intentions to fight mma

cd you are the best at this, im just giving my points across....some of the ranked guys have been there without fighting and some of the titles have 2 much weight on the rankings, i agree with most of the rankings but the worst imo is gluhov #2 thats not possible and elvis mutapcic not ranked i really dont get it!!!!keep doing your job this are my humble oppinions to improve a little!!!

I know 2 years is quite a bit but I just don't want to have a rule that removes fighters entirely from the rankings that are at the top (or top 5 or so) just due to injury. Say a fighter hasn't fought in 8 or 9 months but has a fight scheduled and is injured in training camp and then does not return until after 18 months or so. That fighter should not be removed IMO. That is why I set a 2 year removal rule and these things do happen in MMA. If a fighter is not fighting, like Sergei, Davis,..., and their are no reported injuries, I will begin dropping them after about 12 - 14 months of inactivity like I have been.

Gluhov got that spot because he basically took Garner's place after defeating him. As the M-1 HW GP continues, whoever beats Gluhov will take this spot (or he will hold it if he wins) and the winner of the M-1 HW GP will be top 2 as deserved for going through this tournament.

Did Peter Graham win his fight yesterday? I've been holding off on him for that fight but I haven't found the results for that yet.

I was planning on adding Graham or Rolles Gracie if he wins his fight at WSOF next month. I added Ishii cause he is coming off wins over Sylvia and Rizzo and Shamil really needed to go. If Gracie or Graham have impressive wins one of them can bump him out.

Sergei will be dropping 4 spots next month and probably another 4 spots the following month and will continue to drop until he either gets a fight lined up or until he is off the list entirely. Sucks that such a great HW fighter won't get a fight lined up with ONE FC, WSOF, Bellator, M-1, KSW,... I am sure he is in high demand for any of these orgs.

also nakanishi over rumble???? anthony would demolish this kid!!!!

at mw.....cd....were is elvis mutapcic????????? were is jt money taylor?????

mutapcic imo is top 3...do you really think neither of this guys: 7. Arthur 7.Guseinov (M-1 Global)
8. Doug Marshall (Bellator)
9. Mario Miranda (M-1 Global)
10. Bruno Santos (Bellator)

can beat elvis??? imo no way, not even emeev or falcao

Babalu will be falling to contenders next month.

Vlad will fall to 10. Vlad recently signed to Bellator so it will be interesting to see how he does in an upcoming LHW GP.

Rumble will be taking the leap to number 2 if he beats Jan at WSOF LHW GP (and possibly number 1). If he fights someone other than Jan, he will still be passing up Nakanishi if he gets a win. Nakanishi also has a fight coming up this month but he will not be moving up with a win. He will be fighting Serbian Aleksandar Radosavlijevic (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Aleksandar-Radosavljevic-31123) at WFC 18 in two weeks.

Regarding Mutapcic and Taylor, just waiting for their next fights at WSOF and CWFC, depending on who they fight and if they win. Santos and Vianna have not fought in over a year and will begin to fall in the contenders list next month. They could soon be replaced by Mutapcic and Taylor if either of them win their next fight or if Santos and Vianna don't line up a fight by the end of July. I'm sure Elvis would do good against a number of those guys but the rankings are mainly based on wins & losses and titles and tournaments won. Elvis will be added soon to the rankings and if he gets the WSOF belt, he will be in the top 10 as well.

lw....why antonio mckee is still ranked??? justin gaethje should be there...

cd you are the best at this, im just giving my points across....some of the ranked guys have been there without fighting and some of the titles have 2 much weight on the rankings, i agree with most of the rankings but the worst imo is gluhov #2 thats not possible and elvis mutapcic not ranked i really dont get it!!!!keep doing your job this are my humble oppinions to improve a little!!!

Burkman will be top 5 next month if he defeats Jon Fitch in just over a week from now.

The Tyson Steele/Steve Carl winner will replace Hieron next month.

Brian Cobb would be another huge win for Gaethje. Really looking forward to this fight. If he looks like he did against JZ, Cobb could be in some serious trouble. Cobb is tough as hell though so this should be a great fight. This is one of the fights I'm looking forward to most this month. If Cobb wins he will be making his entrance into the rankings.

McKee fought 5 months ago and I did drop him a bit after he lost that one. Just can't justify dropping him since he has been active and his overall career record is still very impressive. A loss to top 3 Aoki can't hurt him too much because almost everyone loses to Aoki.

I always appreciate your input Willie. I always take your comments into account and make the revisions within the rules we setup here for the ranking system. Thanks for all the input. Please keep it coming.

I am sure he is in high demand for any of these orgs.

yep graham won....i agree that peter and rolles(if he beats huckaba) should be there....shamil isnt active enough as you said and sergei, man this guy does not want to fight mma...he has been offered fights but he is comitted to kickboxing, ive heard a rumor that wsof offered him a contract, that he ask for time to think it over and that he needed more time to accept it!!! that the company called him again and offer him a main event fight vs cheick kongo and that they havent heard of him is a while!!!! dont know whats happening but sergei vs kongo!!!! wow

Nice to hear Graham won the fight. Wish there was a video somewhere to see this. Yeah, Shamil had to drop. He was not fighting anyone and has been on there since the beginning without doing much.

Holy shit, Sergei/Kongo would be unreal. Sergei needs to pick up the damn phone and make that shit happen.

wekka, someone else to consider in the future at FLW is Alptekin Ozkilic. I just watched his fight against Antonio Banuelos from Legacy on Friday and he looked impressive (as short as the fight was). He's a wrestler with some serious KO power. He took out a previous ranked BW in Banuelos in just 30 seconds and he's now 8-1.

I really think 1 year of inactivity is reasonable, 15 months tops. That's just me though.

I just don't see how that is fair to other fighters to keep guys on the list for so long, whatever the caveats. Also as I said, 2 years is an eternity away, to the extent that you have no idea how a guy will come back. In such a situation, a guy probably needs a fight back to prove himself before being put back on the list. This is much more so the case in the instance of an injury. Not only may there be debilitating effects of the injury, presumably the guy has been out of training for a long time, gone through a lengthy rehab, possibly gotten out of physical shape. I just can't see any logic in that.

GSP is a great example of why the 2 year length is on there. He def. deserved to keep his title and top spot in the UFC rankings despite being out for 19 months. He came back strong as ever. Cruz is another example and there are others throughout MMA history. A 1 year duration is often not enough to allow fighters to come back from injury especially if injury occurs in training when the fighter is preparing for a fight and already hasn't fought for 4 - 8 months.

Also, if someone receives a 1 year suspension for marijuana use after a fight and does not have another fight for 16 months, I don't think they should be completely removed from the rankings. They should probably get passed up a bit or drop some but not be entirely removed, especially if they are in the top 7 or so.

The guys that just aren't active for 12 - 14 months or so, will be dropping down 2 - 4 spots at a time so I am taking this into account. If they were injured though and planning their return, I would not have dropped them at all.
