Adamek, Chambers back on Aug. 3 nbc sports network
Wed Jun 05, 2013 6:05 pm
Tomasz Adamek and Eddie Chambers will be back in action on August 3 at the Mohegan Sun, according to promoter Russell Peltz, leading the two sides of a double-header to be televised on NBC Sports.
Adamek (48-2, 29 KO) is coming off of back-to-back controversial wins in 2012 over Chambers and Steve Cunningham, the latter of which had him set up for an IBF eliminator with Kubrat Pulev. Adamek decided not to take that fight after all despite signing up for a two-round tournament to determine a new mandatory challenger, citing the fact that he could make more money to fight someone else in Poland. It now appears that he won't be doing that, so the early belief that Adamek simply didn't want anything to do with Pulev looks like a reasonable assumption.
The 36-year-old former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champ has no opponent named for the date.
Chambers (36-3, 18 KO) will be making a move down to cruiserweight to face South African Thabiso Mchunu (13-1, 10 KO). Mchunu, 24, has already made quite the impression on Twitter, using the word "gay" as more or less a catch-all insult. Pretty strong psychological stuff, indeed.
