The upstart World Series of Fighting (WSOF) is prepping for WSOF 4 in Ontario, California this coming weekend and has secured a long-term contract with NBC Sports Network, but their acquisition of foreign MMA promotions has stayed under the radar so far. Quietly, the WSOF has bought out Nicaragua’s Omega MMA, rebranded it as WSOF and on July 27th held their first event, WSOF “Central America” at the Nicaragua National Football Stadium. The card was highlighted by Rene Martinez choking out former boxing champ Ricardo Mayorga in the 1st round.

The WSOF website now boasts a “WSOF Global” link that promises news in Canada, Brazil, Japan, and the UK. Rumors are swirling that either Maximum fighting Championship (MFC) or Aggression Fighting Championship (AFC) are primed to become the Canadian buy out.

I really hope they don't try to expand too soon and go the same route as EliteXC.

i just spoke to a media friend and says there are ongoing talks with afc and mfc and that the asking price are dropping very fast, both companies are aware that wsof is talking to both.

but that wsof is also talking to quebec company instinct mma, he says this could be a major factor on their dec...beacuse instinct mma shows attract more fans than afc or mfc and that ufc does very well in montreal, that is a big mma market.

they want to become really a world series of fighting, the international events will serve to bring the best talent available from each corner in the world to wsof usa...

I just spoke with Mark Pavelich of MFC. He said this report is not true and that he has never spoken with WSOF, and is not even that familiar with their show.

It would be cool but I just hope they are real careful.  Like wekka said, don't want them going down the EliteXC route.  They need to add a full rules Asian MMA brand in a ring.  My hopes are ONE FC would be this great Asian org. but recently they are not living up to what they set out.

As long as they don't pick up kimbo a.d pay people to just stand no one will ever be as shitty as elite xc.

I don't like that they're trying to absorb leagues when they've only had 3 real shows under the WSOF banner.

WSOF need to be careful. We all saw what happened with Elite XC (to beat a dead horse).

I also can't see Pavelich selling the MFC any time soon.

Even if mark is telling the truth about not selling, he is so full of shit, he calls himself the number 2 company in the world and he is far very far from it, and trust me he knows who wsof are

WSOF could definitely get MFC. Wasn't Pavelich entertaining offers for MFC now long ago? If I recall correctly, the reported figure was ~1 million dollars.

Good to see their roster will swell allowing for more exciting fights and new prospects to battle their established guys would especially like the top end deepen meaning hw and lhw.

More on the AFC and WSOF deal that looks to be going down. Look for AFC and WSOF to co-promote between 10-12 shows in Canada under the World Series of Fighting banner. The partnership may start as soon as late October.
