Vinny Magalhaes vs Jeff Monson
Fri Aug 23, 2013 5:07 pm
http://www.cagedinsider.com/ufc/vinny-magalhaes-retiring-next-bout-booked/
After Vinny Magalhaes initially said he would hang up the gloves if he was cut by the UFC, as he was following his KO loss to Anthony Perosh earlier this month, the jiu-jitsu star has decided to keep fighting after all.
According to a report from MMA Fighting.com, Magalhaes will battle fellow UFC vet Jeff Monson at a Global Warriors Challenge event on November 9th. The fight will be contested at heavyweight and will go down in Hawaii.
So, why did Magalhaes change his mind? The vet was quoted saying in the aforementioned report:
“I never really thought of retiring,” Magalhaes said. “I made those comments within 24 hours after I had lost a fight, so I was still a little frustrated, and I was being too emotional with my responses. That’s why I haven’t said a thing since. I needed to clear my mind before starting to speak about my next moves.”
Fair enough. Although the loss to Perosh must have been extremely disappointing (as it lasted just 14 seconds), Magalhaes has worked his way back to the UFC before. Following a UD loss to Eliot Marshall at UFC 97 in 2009, Magalhaes went on an 8-1 run, which included winning M-1 Global’s light-heavyweight belt. Although he also came up short versus Phil Davis earlier in the year, Magalhaes did score his first official Octagon win at UFC 152, by tapping out Igor Pokrajac.
If you’re wondering, the former UFC contender Monson is coming off back-to-back losses while competing in Europe, after the 42 year-old put together a seven fight undefeated streak. It will be interesting to see how Magalhaes performs, and if he can lock up another UFC contract in the coming months. Since “Pezao” is only 29 years-old, and possesses one of the sport’s top ground games, you would think he has a good chance.

Put him in a Bellator HW tourney if he wins against Monson. I´m rooting for Monson big time.

ya know, some people can enjoy a fight without any sort of ranking or title implications. You can watch it and just hope for a good fight, and with these two and their grappling credentials it could turn out to be a great fight.fka wrote:Honestly this fight means nothing fir either guy if vinny wins wow you best an aged vet who fights more then what's good for him and if monson wins yeah you beat a ufc failure and not really a hw.

It isn't about "will this fight get him closer to being back in the UFC?!" or "lol these guys aren't top 10 not interest" for everyone.

Trust me I'm all about good fights I'm just worried monson is rushing himself I'd like to see him on trt LOL and vinny is legit but I just really don't see him grappling with the snowman he'd going to try a head kick most likely but he will only grapple if forced by monson (and honestly grappling is all I want to see cuz they both have sick jits)

Monson by TKO
Hell, if Monson wanted his first standing KO: here's the fight.

I got Monson winning this by decision or possibly even some weird submission

I can see Monson subbing Vinny, but I think there's more of a chance that he either cruises to a decision or TKO's Vinny.
