With Karakhanyan and Palmer now as the headliners, the fight between UFC veteran Khalib Starnes and Alberta's Dwayne Lewis now shifts to the main card, which will air on the NBC Sports Network. To round out the four-fight main card will be bouts between undefeated Nick Newell and Sabah Fadai, as well as a fight between Jesse Taylor and Elvis Mutapcic.
Mutapcic and Taylor were also supposed to have met at WSOF 5 before the New Jersey Athletic Commission cancelled the bout last second upon seeing Mutapcic take an unknown substance in the locker room.
The full line-up for WSOF 7 now looks like this:
Main card
Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Lance Palmer (for inaugural featherweight title)
Jesse Taylor vs. Elvis Mutapcic
Sabah Fadai vs. Nick Newell
Khalb Starnes vs. Dwayne Lewis
Prelims
Shawn Albrecht vs. Josh Machan
Michael Hill vs. Richard Arsenault
David Perron vs. Matt Baker
Marcus Vinicius vs. Ryan Chiappe
Jake MacDonald vs. Myles Merola
Micah Brakefield vs. Brendan Kornberger

On one hand, I'm EXTREMELY excited for Georgi. He's one of the most awesome dudes I've had the pleasure of talking to - he's one of those guys that's just really happy to be doing what he does for a living and Lance Palmer is another amazing guy to be fighting. Great headlining fight and hopefully it brings on more exposure.
But on the other hand, the reason I reserved ringside tickets to this was because of the Kyle vs. Johnson fight. Seeing bigger dudes fight up close is so much better, whereas the little guys I almost prefer being further away/watching on a screen so you can see everything.
I know both Jake MacDonald and Michael Hill in real life as well, so I'll for sure still be doing to the event.. but I'm gonna see if I can get some comp'd tickets or press passes first

Re: WSOF 7: Karakhanyan vs. Palmer Results & Discussion
Mon Dec 02, 2013 9:31 pm
This Saturday at the PNE Agrodome is the World Series of Fighting 7. This is the biggest MMA event to hit Vancouver since the UFC. Not only that, it will be loaded with some great local professional talent, like 38-year-old Kalib Starnes (15-8-1).
The Canadian middleweight and UFC veteran has put together a three-fight winning streak. What’s so impressive about that? Last summer, he fought three different men in a three-month period, including moving up to the heavyweight division to fight Tim Hague for Aggression Fighting Championships (now WSOF Canada) in Edmonton.
Back in June 2011, Starnes lost a fight and, apparently, his will to compete and retired immediately after the bout. His reasoning was the lack of training partners and no real motivation to train. Fast forward to this Saturday and we are looking upon a different man — someone who has found peace.
“It’s been a change in attitude and a change in my mind. I really feel a lot more comfortable fighting right now,” Starnes told MMASucka Radio. “I feel like it’s what I want to do. I’m pushing myself all the time in the gym. I feel comfortable getting into the cage because I want to be there. I’m in a good place mentally and emotionally right now and it hasn’t always been like that for me.”
Many of you hardcore fans remember Starnes for something else. We won’t rehash the past — let’s just say that his departure from the UFC wasn’t on the best of terms. Call it redemption or coming full circle, but for Starnes he wants to earn another opportunity.
“I would love to have another opportunity to fight in the UFC,” said Starnes. “I’ve been putting together wins and we’ll see if I can keep doing that and be as active as I can and we’ll see what happens. But if I can get back and have another fight there I would love that.”
For now, the MMA mercenary continues to compete wherever and whenever, which includes this Saturday for WSOF 7 in Vancouver. A win over Dwayne Lewis (13-8) would be another move in the right direction.
Also on the card is a featherweight title fight between Georgi Karakhanyan (22-3) and Lance Palmer (7-0). Go to wsofcanada.com for the full fight card and ticket information. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., prelims start at 2:30 p.m. and the main card will be underway at 6 p.m. Come down early and get behind some great local fighters. If you want to try and win your way in, go to MMASucka.com and participate in their fun contest.

Re: WSOF 7: Karakhanyan vs. Palmer Results & Discussion

Bust out your winter coats, the World Series of Fighting is heading North of the border this December to the city of Vancouver, British Columbia. If my iPhone’s weather app is reading correctly, it looks like we’re in for some sub-freezing temperatures, a few snow flurries, and a chorus of chattering teeth. Yep, WSOF 7 is going to be a drastic climate change from October’s WSOF 6 which took place comfortably close to the equator in Miami, Florida.
The promotion’s debut Canadian event takes place on Saturday, December 7th from the PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada. Although the original headliner of Anthony Johnson vs. Mike Kyle has been called off due to an injury, the new main event between surging Georgi Karakhanyan and undefeated Lance Palmer will likely prove to be an even better matchup, and did I mention it was for the Inaugural Featherweight Championship? Call me skeptical, but the title fight should always be the main event regardless of how vicious Rumble’s jaw-dropping (literally, just ask Arlovski) left hook is.
Enough of the lead-in, it’s time to get down to business. Below are the predictions for Saturday’s WSOF 7: Karakhanyan vs. Palmer.
Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Lance Palmer
Lance Palmer is undefeated, he’s a four-time All-American wrestler, and he already holds the 145 pound title in RFA. For the past few years he’s been considered one of the top featherweight prospects in the sport while training alongside a murderers row of UFC super-athletes over at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento. Many people (including myself) have been anxiously waiting for Palmer to join the big leagues and wreck opponents on a more even playing field. But before you throw grandma’s Christmas money into a Lance Palmer parlay, you might want to pay close attention to his opponent.
Georgi “Insane” Karakhanyan is riding a blistering 8 fight win streak since leaving Bellator in 2011. In his World Series of Fighting debut this September, the Millennia MMA standout choked out Waylon Lowe with a first round guillotine. But the real meat and potatoes of why Karakhanyan will upset the highly touted Lance Palmer is this: Georgi is a vet. Having competed in Bellator and suffering losses to Joe Warren (a former champ) and Patricio Freire (a former title challenger) have given the Armenian the edge in experience and molded him into a monster, a very hungry monster. After his fight with Warren in 2010, Georgi learned a lot about dealing with elite level wrestlers, a lesson that will be invaluable against his upcoming opponent.
So, here’s how the fight plays out: Lance Palmer will take Georgi down at some point in this fight (it’s almost inevitable), but Georgi has a very aggressive jiu jitsu game that will pose a significant threat to Palmer, who will suffer his first loss via submission and learn the same lesson Georgi did against Joe Warren, except this time the wrestler loses.
PREDICTION: GEORGI KARAKHANYAN VIA SUBMISSION ROUND 3
Jesse Taylor vs. Elvis Mutapcic
This match up was originally scheduled at WSOF 5 in Atlantic City, but a very disappointing incident moments before the bout involving a hallucinating member of the NJSAC led to the bout being canceled last minute, quite literally. It turns out the bottle of pills the NJSAC member accused Mutapcic of ingesting was in fact a bottle of prescription heart condition medicine for his manager. Canceling the fight not only hurt Mutapcic’s reputation and finances (and Taylor’s), but it has left David Branch on the shelf waiting for his opponent in the WSOF’s Inaugural Middleweight World Championship. Both Mutapcic and Taylor are going into this fight far hungrier than before, anxious to end months of preparation against each other in a long drawn-out process. This means we’re in for an exciting fight featuring two guys who are at the top of their game.
The factor that will decide the winner here is experience, and I give the edge to Jesse Taylor who has more than twice the fights of Mutapcic (35 to 15) and holds notable career wins over guys who are successful (meaning competing in) the UFC right now: Dylan Andrews, Chris Camozzi and Tom Watson. Furthermore, Taylor is a former NCAA Division 1 wrestler who possesses a potent submission game, so if and when this thing hits the mat, the fight is his. On the other hand, Mutapcic is pretty well rounded, with five wins by submission and 6 by KO/TKO. However, his experience, training, and the level of competition he’s faced are not on the same level as Taylor.
PREDICITON: JESSE TAYLOR VIA SUBMISSION RD 2
Nick Newell vs. Sabah Fadai
Nick Newell is about to serve Fadai the first submission loss of his career this weekend, mark my words. Well, don’t take a highlighter to your computer screens, but at least finish reading this.. The undefeated wrestler known as “Notorious” fights with a frantic pace that overwhelms his opponents and allows him to capitalize on their early mistakes, most often by submission. In fact, 7 of his 10 wins are by first round submission, so why would he break tradition? He won’t..
Probably the most interesting aspect of this fight is that Newell will be facing his most capable and dangerous opponent to date. Sabah Fadai is no slouch, and he has a knack for ending things in the first round also, with 5 of his 7 victories coming in the first round. Fadai also trains alongside talented ONE FC champ Bibiano Fernandes, and will be fighting in front of a hometown crowd in Vancouver. These are all important factors when deciding the winner, but nothing Fadai has accomplished tells me he can handle a guy with the wrestling abilities of Newell, but he’s welcome to prove me wrong Saturday.
PREDICTION: NICK NEWELL VIA SUBMISSION ROUND 1
See the Full Fight Card, Event Information, & How to Watch on the WSOF 7 Event Page. And don’t forget to tune in to NBC Sports Saturday for an exciting night of fights north of the border.

Joining the fighters on the call was WSOF President Ray Sefo.
World Series of Fighting 7 will take place this Saturday on Dec. 7 at the PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Karakhanyan and Palmer headline the NBCSN-televised card, competing for the inaugural World Series of Fighting featherweight title. The live telecast starts at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and is preceded by undercard fights streaming live on World Series of Fighting’s official website, www.wsof.com, beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.
The following are highlights from the conference call:
RAY SEFO:
“These are exciting times for World Series of Fighting. We are looking to be in every household around the world by the end of 2015. I’m really looking forward to this show and it’s a stacked card. Guys like Jesse Taylor and Nick Newell and Elvis Mutapcic are the future stars of this sport. I think it’s a pretty exciting time for all these guys.”
What can we expect internationally in 2014? Can we expect more fights in Canada?
“Yes, absolutely. We just signed a deal with Australia and New Zealand, they are going to do like six shows. Canada will be about the same thing. Of course they won’t all be on the mother ship, meaning they won’t all be on NBC. I believe those that aren’t would be streamed live.”
GEORGI KARAKHANYAN:
“I know Lance (Palmer) comes from a good wrestling background and trains with a good team. But at the end of the day it’s an MMA fight and so once that door’s locks it doesn’t matter. It’s not a wrestling match. I’m looking to go out there and finish. I like to fight, and I don’t mind getting punched in the face. And I don’t mind punching him back. I’m just looking to go out there and put on an exciting fight for the Canadian fans. And I’m going for a finish.
“I think I’ve just learned how to win fights and how to break my opponents. I used to look to go into a fight and finish right away and if I didn’t then I would get discouraged. But I’ve learned from it. I’m in the gym every day unless I’m over-trained or sick. I’m always trying to learn and work on my weaknesses. I’m just learning how to perform under the bright lights once that door locks and all the people are watching.”
LANCE PALMER:
“It’s been a pretty crazy past month and everything’s happened pretty quick with the signing last month with the World Series of Fighting also with the world title fight. For me I was in between contracts with another promotion and I had a good couple of calls with the WSOF guys. And things just progressed from there and next thing you know Rick Glenn had to pull out of his fight and they gave me the opportunity for me to step in there on four weeks’ notice. So it’s been exciting and a fun process so far leading up to this point.”
ELVIS MUTAPCIC:
Did you experience any negative feedback based on the controversy following your WSOF 5 fight cancellation vs. Jesse Taylor:
“I got 99 percent positive feedback. There were some people that were questioning if I took something and there’s always going to be that. Like I said I was really upset that it happened. We get a chance to make a living doing what we love and that night it gotten taken away. If it wasn’t for the World Series being such a great company, me and Jesse would have been out a paycheck. So I just want to thank World Series for that. So I’m just happy that I get to go in there and take care of what we should have finished three months ago.
“I’m really familiar with Jesse. He’s a very good wrestler and very well-rounded. I think he’s the best fighter that I’ve faced out there, which I truly think he is. I expect him to be very aggressive and to come forward and I expect a dog fight to the finish.”
JESSE TAYLOR:
“I just want to get in there and I want to fight. I know it’s going to be a good one and I want to have some fun. I’m ready. Me and Elvis are going to put on a great show in Canada. Thank you, Ray Sefo, for everything you’ve done. I’m hungry and I’m ready.”
NICK NEWELL:
On fighting in Fadai’s hometown of Vancouver:
“That doesn’t matter to me. It doesn’t matter where we fight. It’s another fight and another opponent. It sounds like (Fadai) has got the right mindset. Whatever. It’s just another fight and I’m going to go out there and give my best and put on an entertaining fight.
“I’m more worried about Fadai right now and the threat he poses to me. I’m really just concentrated on this fight right now more than anything else. When it comes to the title you have to beat everybody if you think you’re the best. In due time I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get there and fight whoever I have to fight. There are no easy fights in the World Series of Fighting.
“I feel like I’m being looked at more for my skill now than for having one hand. People are always going to say, ‘Look at that guy, I can’t believe it.’ It’s a part of who I am. If I go to the movies someone will say, ‘Look at the guy with one hand going to the movies.’ It’s always going to be like that. There will be people who have negative things to say but I grew up with it and have a pretty thick skin. I’m a fighter at the end of the day and a pretty good one and that’s why I’m in the World Series of Fighting: because of what I’ve accomplished and not because of the way I was born.”
SABAH FADAI:
“It’s going to be great to fight in my backyard of Vancouver in front of all my fans.
“I’m often asked, ‘How do you prepare for a guy with one arm?’ You really don’t. You can’t bring in somebody and tie off their arm. It just doesn’t work that way. I think Nick (Newell) is a tough guy. I’m not going to take anything away from him. I think he uses one arm as an advantage. Like I’ve said before, I’m going to go out there to hurt him. It’s our job to fight and that’s what I’m going to do. Especially coming into my town, it’s just not going to happen.”

Re: WSOF 7: Karakhanyan vs. Palmer Results & Discussion
Wed Dec 04, 2013 10:12 pm
Get ready, Canada: the World Series of Fighting is about to invade your maple syrup fountains and moose meat factories.
WSOF 7 “Karakhanyan vs. Palmer” -- the prelims for which will stream live to Sherdog.com -- will serve as the Las Vegas-based organization’s first trip north of the United States border and takes place Saturday at the PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, British Columbia. The main draw, which airs live on NBC Sports Network, was initially expected to be topped by a light heavyweight showdown pitting Mike Kyle against Anthony Johnson. That booking was scrapped due to injury, however, and the event will now see the inaugural WSOF featherweight champion crowned to close the show.
Here is what to watch for at World Series of Fighting 7:
‘Insane’ Refrain
Georgi Karakhanyan has been on fire since receiving his Bellator MMA release in 2011, going undefeated in his last eight fights and capturing the Tachi Palace Fights featherweight crown in the process.
The 28-year-old has lived up to his “Insane” nickname more often than not, even in defeat, going the distance just eight times in 26 pro outings and earning 16 of his 22 wins by either knockout or submission.
More than two years after running into Joe Warren and Patricio Freire in Bellator’s Season 2 and Season 4 tournaments, Karakhanyan now finds himself staring at second chance to win major championship gold. The Russian-born featherweight is hitting the age we typically view as an athlete’s prime, when youthful ability combines with experience to make the competitor the best he or she will ever be.
Will this mark the beginning of a dominant run for Karakhanyan on his new stage?
‘Party’ Time
Standing in the Bellator veteran’s way will be Lance Palmer, an undefeated prospect who earned a hard-fought split decision victory over Jared Downing to become the Resurrection Fighting Alliance featherweight king in June. Palmer will step in for Rick Glenn, who withdrew from his showdown with Karakhanyan due to personal reasons, according to the promotion’s official release.
As a result, Palmer finds himself in an advantageous situation. Given Karakhanyan’s pedigree and Palmer’s comparative lack of experience, this could easily turn into one of those situations where the young gun forgets that he is supposed to lose and puts on the fight of his life.
Palmer, 25, will likely hit the cage looking for a takedown in order to stifle Karakhanyan’s explosive standup. The question: can the four-time NCAA All-American wrestler make the most of this massive opportunity and keep Karakhanyan on his back?
The king returns
Elvis Mutapcic is a middleweight on the rise, despite the disconcerting circumstances surrounding the postponement of his tournament semifinal with Jesse Taylor.
Mutapcic was originally slated to meet the Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran at WSOF 5, but the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board canceled the fight after an official allegedly observed Mutapcic ingesting medication backstage -- a claim the former Maximum Fighting Championship titlist staunchly denied. Mutapcic’s WSOF debut may have been delayed, but I think “The King” will be worth the wait. The Iowan has finished 11 of his 13 career victims and has never been stopped in 15 pro outings.
In Taylor, Mutapcic will face a rejuvenated 31-year-old who has put together a six-fight winning streak, hoisting the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship middleweight title along the way. Like Mutapcic, Taylor has also finished the majority of his opponents, scoring 14 submission wins during his career.
The winner of this main card showdown will later face Dave Branch for the inaugural WSOF middleweight belt, so you would be wise to take note.
Newell Rules
Everybody wants to talk about Nick Newell being a congenital amputee, but I think it is about time we starting leading the conversation with his record.
He has been perfect through 10 pro bouts, earning seven of those wins by submission and another pair by knockout. Eight months after capturing the Xtreme Fighting Championships lightweight title, Newell signed with the WSOF and made his promotional debut against Keon Caldwell, forcing “The Black Assassin” to tap out to a guillotine choke just 2:07 into their contest.
Newell must now contend with Sabah Fadai, a six-year pro who has stopped all seven of his conquered foes inside the distance. Fadai has gone 15 minutes just once in 10 career bouts but has not competed in 13 months. He was last seen in October 2012, when he submitted Cody Krahn with a triangle choke in just 84 seconds at MFC 35.
Fadai figures to be one of Newell’s toughest tests to date. Can the American keep his perfect record intact?

Re: WSOF 7: Karakhanyan vs. Palmer Results & Discussion

With Brazilian Marcus Vinicius (9-6) forced to withdraw from this weekend’s World Series of Fighting 7, his preliminary bout with Ryan Dickson (6-1) has been scratched, and the card will carry on with nine fights.
MMAjunkie today confirmed the change, in addition to another late substitution as Gabriel Solorio (9-6) has replaced Josh Machan (11-4) and will now meet Shawn Albrecht (9-5).
Featuring the promotion’s first-ever featherweight title fight with Georgi Karakhanyan meeting Lance Palmer, WSOF 7 takes place Saturday at PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The evening’s four-fight main card airs ON NBC Sports Network following five preliminary bouts that stream on MMAjunkie.com.
Dickson is a 24-year-old welterweight prospect with an impressive 6-1 mark that includes six stoppage wins. However, his most important victory to date took place earlier this year outside of the cage, as he defeated testicular cancer that was identified during the medicals required for his licensing process.
Dickson was actually an injury replacement for Ryan Chiappe (10-8), who was originally expected to meet Vinicius.
Meanwhile, Vinicus is a Brazilian native now residing in Canada. A capoeira stylist, “Ossoduro” is 4-2 in his past six fights and boasts seven stoppage wins among his nine career victories. A timetable for his return was not established.
Albrecht makes his WSOF debut on the strength of a two-fight winning streak that includes two knockout wins. He now meets Solorio, who is 4-1 in his past five fights after suffering through a three-fight losing streak.
The finalized WSOF 7 lineup includes:
MAIN CARD
Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Lance Palmer - for inaugural WSOF featherweight title
Elvis Mutapcic vs. Jesse Taylor - middleweight tournament semifinal
Sabah Fadai vs. Nick Newell
Dwayne Lewis vs. Kalib Starnes
PRELIMINARY CARD
Richard Arsenault vs. Michael Hill
Matt Baker vs. David Perron
Shawn Albrecht vs. Gabriel Solorio
Myles Merola vs. Dan Ring
Micah Brakefield vs. Brendan Kornberger
